aftermarket exhaust.

aftermarket exhaust.
Wanting a little more sound from my car while maintaining my factory bumper. Something like a Infinity G35 coupe soundor similar. Nothing loud b/c a v6 sounds like crap when they get loud at all. I have seen borla, but it seems expensive. I also thought of the muffler mod (just replacing the muffler and tips). If anyone has any suggestions, i would greatly appreciate it. Also, how hard would it be to replace just the tips. I know they are spot welded on and could be ground off from the looks of it, but i am not sure. The factory tips are just too small and do not fill the openings.

RE: aftermarket exhaust.
lol you'll never get this engine to sound like a VQ.
I haven't seen much fabrication of the oem exhaust, but I'm sure it can't be that bad. You could save a lot of money by bypassing a catback and something like replacing the resonator w/a Magnaflow pipe. Personally, I wouldn't touch it though. A jag x-type w/a loud exhaust is just wrong imo.
YEah, you can also replace the tips...just take it to an exhaust shop and they'll cut it up and weld it back in.

JXT - I went through the same thought process as you...the Borla system is mufflers (and clamps) only. I shopped other performance mufflers (i.e - Magnaflow) and found them to actually be more $$ to buy and fit off the shelf (and not stainless steel). The other problem is the muffler itself, the curve into the muffler from the pipe is such that it would be difficult if not impossible w/o a pipe bender to fit a muffler w/ a straight inlet. Check this forum for my post on the Borla, I love it and would say it is worth every penny. I'll be happy to send you video clips w/ sound before and after if you PM me.
As for the tips, they are spot welded on each side of the pipe and at the top where it is hard to get at (but can be done).
