Welcome to the forum dontag,
I've moved your question from General Tech Help to X-Type forum. Members here with the same model will be able to help.
When you get a minute, please follow this link New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the New Member Area - Intro a MUST forum and post some info about yourself and your vehicle for all members to see. In return you'll get a proper welcome and some useful advice about posting to the forum.

Hi Dontag, I have the same problem with my 2007 X-Type on occasions, did you manage to find a solution?
When I took this up with my local Jaguarship in Queensland, they said it was because my wife was too light and she should put some weight on!They said it isn't detecting anyone in the front seat! I thought, what sort of fool do they think I am?
Anyway,it still happens on irregular moments but I would be interested if you've found a solution.
Regards John

I can sympathise with anyone having Airbag issues. It took me six months to troubleshoot mine!

The SRS (Supplementary Restraint System) has become ever more complex on all Jaguar models almost to the point of needing dealer level diagnostics to be able to repair it. Here's the schematic of the components in your X-Type:
(click on the image to enlarge it)
As you can see there's a lot of sensors which can trigger the dash Airbag warning light or the PAD Passenger Air Bag Deactivation) indicator.
The first thing to check is 'normal' behaviour. The SRS completes a self check when the ignition is switched on:
1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position
2. Observe the airbag warning light function
3. Warning light ON solid for six seconds
4. Warning light goes off and stays off
If there's a fault on the system, the following occurs:
1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position
2. Observe the airbag warning light function
3, Warning light ON solid for six seconds
4. Warning light goes off for two seconds
5. Warning light flashes the appropriate number of times for the fault logged
6. Warning light goes off for two seconds
7. The sequence is repeated five times
8. Warning light stays ON until the ignition is switched OFF
The flashes in (5) may appear random but they are showing Flash (sometimes known as Blink) Codes which gives information on the fault.
For example, my issue was Flash Code 17 shown as lamp ON for one occurence of 0.5 seconds, then lamp OFF for one second, followed by seven occurences of lamp flashing ON/OFF for 0.5 seconds each. This indicated Code (1 - 7) 17.
If your vehicle is displaying a Flash Code, it could help determine the cause of the fault.
