Pretty sure those 6.5' enclosures are going to be just a little too small for a 8w3. It only takes 0.325 cu ft, so it may be close - you measure and let us know, k? Definately beef up the box though if you do, have them put a couple layers of fiberglass over it...would help a ton! It is pretty flimsy when moving alot of air w/ a new woofer.

Oh yeah the re audio re 8 only needs .3-.35 cubic feet of space so it works with all sorts of applications. Or the pioneer 8 would work if the sub amp is only one channel.

The JL W3 only comes in an 8 it looks like. If I had a shop fabricate an 8inch box, the shop would make it to fit the subwoofer that I buy.
I bet it is going to be quite costly. I might just go for a pair of replacement 6.5" subs...ones that would fit.(depending on the cost)

If you can get the 8's to fit in the side boxes, definately go for it! They do make 6.5 w3s, see here. I did have these exact speakers in the factory boxes, and they hit ok, but nothing on the low end which left it lacking in my ears. 8's would work great! Boxes are easier and easier to fabricate these days, don't let the cost scare you until they can quote you. See if they are big enough first, as I recommended, just reinforce the original ones if you can...that would be the cheapest route.

Well I guess if you wanted to spend the money on some jl go right ahead. Here are the 6.5s...they also have 8 ohm too. Although I wouldn't want to hook those to the stock system. You'd want around 150 rms/ sub and I doubt the entire sound system puts out too much more than 150 rms let alone 300 for the sub channel by itself. IMO you'd be better off not doing anything at all if your going to do 2 subs off of the stock amp. What is your goal to spend money wise?

Yes, totally agree with Aq ^, if you put anything larger than one 8 on the existing amp, you are better off getting another amplifier installed, without a doubt. Indeed, what is your budget bluejagg?

Aq, never heard about the RE subs, only have experience with Kenwoods and JL Audio...and it is hard to put your faith into a manufacturer you haven't used before. change is hard.

Actually many have said they are better than jl. This sub here for example they say will beat a jlw7 and is also less money. By beat I am talking sq as that sub is more of a high end sq sub not a spl minded woofer.

Around a grand. I would probably get another amp, im not sure how the wiring would workout if I just disconnected the stock subwoofer and re-wired a new amp+sub.

6.5 w3`s sound tempting...although I would rather an 8

List what you are wanting to get out of it exactly?

like 2 subs/ 1 sub least amount of space taken up? Can you do anything yourself or do you have to rely on others?

Well how cmoe you never told us you had that amp? Truly I'd put 2 subs in it if that is the case! Get 2 8s or 2 10s and get boxes made on each back corner of the car like buck did.

If you like the alpine setup how come you said you have no bass? There should be a sub in the rear deck panel.

lol
I would rather put 2 6.5`s in the rear deck. Im not trying to sacrifice trunk space so the perfect solution would be to put in 1 8" or 2 6.5`s in the rear deck.

Im not electrically retarded, but notexperienced enough to make a box. So im relying on what the shop tells me

i wonder what a sub on a rear deck sounds like.

for everyone one else, your right i should just use the 2 12's... but i figure i have a jaguar now, those days are over..

that being said, in the alpine system, if in fact it does have a woofer in the rear deck, i have it turned off... i dont want to blow my speakers, so if i do recall i have sub turned low.

i Think ill get a good subwoofer put into the rear deck, something a lil bass...

who concurs?

No we were holding 2 conversations on the same thread! I knew they were different people!

Pu5hkar-Truly I don't think it matters on age as for you not getting 12's 10's 8's or any size woofer. It's all about how you set it up, you don't necessarily have to have a spl setup with 12's!

Have you ever looked up bucks sound build? He had subs installed in the rear corners of his car that barely takes up any usable space in the trunk.

This is what I'd recommend- If your working off of the cars stock amp add or alter what subs you have in the stock box. If you are going to add power I would not use that stock box, as h20 stated that box wouldn't do very good when you are pushing more air. Not to mention I'd imagine putting some better subs with more power would tear up your rear window and things would start vibrating all over the place especially attached upside down.

Pu5hkar if I were you I'd have one box made for one rear corner (probably your passenger corner since you probably have the drivers side occupied with cd changer and what not) and put this in that corner. You should be able to get the sub for around $100 bucks and they are great subs. The sub is deeply underrated and there are people that put burps to that model with 1500 watts rms. Your amp appears to put out over 700rms at 2 ohms so it would be perfect.

It's easy to not get rattles...you'll get more using the stock box I bet!

BTW how you use it causes rattles. If you just want to add the missing link to your music and add bass and not just bump to let everyone around you know you'll be fine...
