Default Alternator swap

Can the alternator be replaced without taking off the A/C compressor?

I'm getting ready to do the A/C so I may change the alternator thus the question.
Thanks in advance.

Alternator works fine but if you have to pull the A/C compressor to replace the alternator I may do it now as the car has 121,000 miles on it???
If not I will just replace the A/C compressor.

RX-7 tt, I would not worry about the alternator. Worst case, pull the alternator out of the car, get it in your hands and give it a good once over (blow out the dust from inside the alternator, clean up the main terminal on the back, ensure the plug area has silvery pins in it, maybe even apply a little bit of full synthetic oil to the bearings). This way, when you put it back in, you are guaranteed to have something that will last a long time. Alternators in these cars are pretty good and to have an alternator fail is an unusual thing.

I can get it rebuilt in town here for a good price so I'll probably pull and check it to see if the brushes and bearings are in good shape. I wonder how long the original alternators usually last?
Thanks for the feed back.
