Anyone wondering the same thing...
There doesnt seem to be a trunk release anywhere, not in the glove compartment, not by the hood release. So the only way to pop your tunk is by the key fob or the trunk release button on the trunk??
The reason Im wondering is because I live on an Army base and sometimes when you approach the gate they want you to pop your trunk for a quick look-see, most cars just pop the trunk from inside and then they look and close the trunk and then you drive off, but I usually have to get out, pop the trunk and they look, I close it then get back into the car and then drive off...Im just thinkin there's got to be a better way, or maybe Im just lazy...

But as you say...........you can pop it by using the key fob......you can still do that from inside the car while the keys r in the ignition......problem solved?

Inoticed that as well, even though that doesn't bother me to much. The one other thingI noticed was that there is no lock/unlock switch either. So if you unlock your own door because your traveling alone, get in to warm up the car and realize you need to open the back door to put something in or get something out then you have to get in, close your door and then pull the lock to open the other doors, or take the key out and use the key fob to unlock the rest of them. Anyone know if I am just being a retard and not seeing it?

Cable trunk release. The Mondeo / Contour / X 400 was never engineered with one: I don't know why -the Ford predecessor (the Sierra) had a double cable lever in the footwell for the filler flap and the trunk.
The touch sensitive trunk release button is a relatively recent innovation; I like them.
I think the cable fuel filler release is crude and ugly; especially with the cable crossing the floor of the trunk- but an electronic flap release implies putting a solenoid in the flapper door area - such a large mass can wreck the filler pipe head during crash test (after the artificial crash test, the vehicle is turned upside down to simulate a roll; the filler pipe must not leak fuel).
For those who can't be bothered to get out of the car at military checkpoints / customs etc, I suggest re-engineering the vehicle to put the engine in the trunk and using the former engine bay as a cargo area (ala Porsche). That way the hood release will accomplish your needs.
Merry Christmas.

This is directly out of the Operating Handbook...
Internal door locking and Ulocking
To centrally lock all doors,
press the lock lever on the
driver’s or front passenger’s
door. To unlock a door, pull
the release handle or the lock
lever.
Hope this helps --
