AUTO option on the exterior lighting switch button on X-Type 3.0L SE 4dr (June 2001)
Hi,
My X-Type 3.0L SE 4dr (June 2001) came without the AUTO option on the exterior lighting switch button. Is this an option in this type of model? Is it worth upgrading (if possible)? If so, how much, please?
Thanks in advance,
Alexandre (Buxton, UK)

Alexandre, can it be done. Of Course!!!!! The question is how much is it worth to you. At a minimum, you are going to need to get an auto light sensor. Next you will need to get a new headlight switch with the auto light feature. Finally, you are going to have to get into the dash and rewire the car to make all this work. The wiring aspect is what you will find is going to cost you the most if you pay someone to do this for you. The wiring aspect is going to require a lot of dismantling.
Now, with this being said, you may be lucky in that the car is already wired. The easiest check that you can do is to remove the headlight switch and look at the plug going to the headlight switch. You want to locate Pin 14 (the back of the plug should have ascending numbers on it next to each slot that can receive a wire). Do you have a green wire in that spot? If no, then you have a big wiring job. If you do, then your car is wired already and you simply need to plug in the new headlight switch and light sensor.
The other thing that I would caution you on is that each country has different rules when it comes to DRLs and whatnot. Make sure that by doing this, you are not putting yourself in a legal quandry.
