Am at my wits end with the shifter/transmission on our 3.0 Auto Sovereign.
Had an issue initially, last February, when it would hit a false neutral......no codes.....took it into a local auto gearbox guru, who cleaned the contacts and it was OK for a while.....then started again.......code was showing a sensor, so he changed it, but it came back on way home. He thought it must be the cable, do that was changed........again........problem came back within a few miles. Shifter wasn't picking up selection properly........would go into park, but wasn't illuminating same.......would only start in neutral.
Only thing left was to change the shifter itself...........sourcing one took a while and so it sat on the drive for a while.......removed centre console etc, to save mechanic some time.......started car, but couldn't get it to pick up drive......only reverse and neutral..........gave up for a while.........tried again today.........same,but worse.......wouldn't go back into neutral.....shifter felt really stiff/tight......can hear brake switch working.........moved over to left side (3,2 etc) then it got stuck there too........eventually got it back to reverse, but something broke in the process........now stuck in reverse, so can't re-start the car.
Any ideas ?
Can I swap the shifter, with it stuck in reverse ?
Car is mint otherwise, so needs sorting, one way or another.
Update on this, which has been sat on the driveway. Late last summer, I replaced the shifter......was able to just get it into park, so at least I could get the key out. Started car a week or so later, but still stuck in reverse and after a few attempts to get it into any other gear, the shifter got stuck in reverse again and wouldn't go into neutral or park, so had to turn off ignition and disconnected battery.
I recall seeing a post somewhere about the rotary selector at the gearbox end (or whatever it's called) having a poor seal, leading to shifter issues.
See picture......any ideas ? As it's AWD, I can't even tow it anywhere! Shifter linkage arrowed - connects to rotary selector.....is this what may be seized/stiff ?
