Problem is cooler fan continues to run after turning off ignition. Mechanic states it's the resister. Jaguar only sells the complete fan unit (p/n C2S49717) $755 and must buy link lead (p/n C2S46951) $135. Costly! Is it possible to buy the resister part only and where? Thank you for any help.

From what I can gather looking at the OEM wiring diagrams for our cars and actually watching the fans cycle off and on both my'07 and '08; There are 2-Fans, The LH fan is the primary engine cooling fan and the RH is both a supplementary engine cooling fan and the AC condenser fan, both are controlled from signals from the ECM (Engine Control Module) that is receiving inputs from sensors, and being fed to the FCM (Fan Control Module) via the ECM, which decides what each fan needs to do (low speed, high-speed, and so on, providing power to each fan).
If one were to remove the fan/fans assembly/cartridge from an X-Type, unplug the fans from the FCM, and apply 12v (battery voltage) to the fan side of each connector, what would each fan do? My guess; They're both going to run at high speed.
Now we really don't want the either fan running at high-speed any time the ignition is switched on, Ideally we want the LH and RH fan to change speed as coolant temperature demands, and how nice would it be to have both fans running at high speed anytime the AC is on.. I doubt that the increase in fan noise is that big of deal, at least not me.
'back in the old days we would control electric fans by 2 inputs; Coolant Temperature and input from the AC system.. Using a few relays, a coolant temperature sensor or two, and input from the AC system. Our cars ran cool and the AC blew cold.
The Lincoln LS is a close-cousin to the X-Type, and that being said it has the same, if not more than the same demands on it's cooling system than the X-Type; It accomplished it with one electric fan and and an inexpensive FCM.
