Default AWD in both directions?

I pulled my X into a garage to install my HID’s finally (pics and post coming soon!). There was a ramp as soon as you pull into the garage, so the garage is about 4 feet under the ground. While I was working on the car it snowed about 4 inches outside. When I was done with the install I went to pull out of the garage. I started to back up the ramp and when the back tires made it outside in the snow with the front tires still inside on the concrete, the rear tires started spinning and the car would not move! The front tires were on the ground but no matter how much gas I gave the car it just spun the rear tires. I thought this car was AWD? Is it not AWD while in reverse? I don’t know if that could even be! But it was weird! I had to have two other guys help push the car while I was gassing it just to get out. FYI- I have a 03 X-type.

It's 40% front and 60% rear. Not 50,50. So I'd guess that since the rear is allocated for more power it gets first choice at power dispersion.

I have an 03 x type also and the other day had to park on a hill in asnow and ice covered space. While we vsited a friendi got parked in and had to back up to get out and she didnt even spin. I was impressed. My MB would have just sat there. Im no expert but im guessing awd in both directions.

Doesnt sound right. The traction control should have also kicked in to prevent wheel slip.

Do you have dsc though jvegas? If you had dsc I would have shut it off and than tried to see what would happen but that doesn't sound right mine spins either way forward or reverse...

I'm not sure but your front end should have surely forced your car out of the bay. That or your rear end should have slid sideways...

DSC came on 2002 on X-Types. You can tell if it has it at a glance. Look where the security light is by cupholders. If there is a button there with what looks like a car with skid marks behind it then you have DSC.

It is a great thing that keeps basic control of the vehicle keeping it driving straight if that was the intended path...if that doesn't do it here's jags explanation...

DSC uses the anti-lock braking and traction control systems to give you even better control of the car.It makes rapid adjustments, automatically and seamlessly to help prevent over steer or under steer through corners. It also helps you maintain acceleration by preventing wheel spin even on surfaces with uneven grip, for example where one driven wheel is on ice and the other on tarmac.

What DSC does like what GM calls as StabiliTrak .In English, it'sas same as ESPfor other automotive brands .That's all confusing some manufacturers call different names for very same stuffs .
ie Porsche's DSC is PSM lol

Basically driving down a road with 6 inches of snow and your making your path you can floor the car and yank the steering wheel side to side and the car goes straight down the road. It is quite amazing what it does but I mainly drive w/out the dsc on but it's nice to have on while driving freeway or areas that I'm actually moving down the road...

No not all, every sport model does but other models it isn't standard. It may have been in later models but I'm not sure. It's a great feature but when you have a bit of snow it is worthless. If you have 4 inches or more I generally shut it off until I get going down the road.
