Bank 2 Cat Convert. questions
My wife's x type through the p0430 code today. Haven't checked anything out yet. Had to go to autozone to have it read (they won't delete codes) so I don't know if it was a random throw or is going bad. Got a couple questions.
Bank 2 is the "front" side of the engine right? How hard of a replacement is it up there, I know the rear is quite time consuming from the looks of it but how about the front. Also, mine is an early 2005 and I see Jag sells 2. Mine would fall into the $700 cost vs the $300 cost converter. Does anybody know what the differences are on the converters. Of course $300 sounds better. Aftermarket ones just list the same part number for pre and post vin E45886 Anything else I should look at? I'm guessing it is the cat as it has been starting up with a rattle can noise as of late. Was hoping it was just a loose heat shield rattling during start up but a broken cat does make sense with the sound. It has just been too cold and snowy to check it out.

Are you under 80,000 miles?? If so Jag will take care of it. Emission Warranty is 8Yr/80K.
Have you had any running issues repaired lately? Running a while with a vacuum leak or bad ignition coil can force a Cat Efficiency fault to log. At the very least you should have it cleared and make it show itself again to confirm the failure.
Good luck!

You are right.
I have replaced both converters by myself.
The front side is quite a tricky job that took a few hours.
But, as you say, compared to the rear side, which took me several days at the end (without removing the subframe), it's more like a piece of cake.
However my X-Type is an Italian one, so I am quite sure it is useless to give you tips.
US model converters should be totally different as the European ones.
