beep beep beep
My backup beeper has been giving the 3 second beep indicating a fault for a month now. It was an intermittant problem and I did a bunch of hiding beside the car and waving my hands in front of the sensors one at a time to find which one was not working right.
All 4 seemed to work, but one was kinda different from the other 3.
So off to Jag_genius for a great deal on the part, I picked it up yesterday. Just clipped it in place and no more beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep
Hopefully that is it for 2007 car repairs.
Oh.. wait I am going to tackle the transfer fluid change next week..

Bruce,
Do us all a favor the add a FAQ if you can on changing the transfer case fluid. My X went in yesterday for a new one RIP @ 48K miles. I'll be changing the fluid on the new one frequently now.

probably worth mentioning that in the Jag the transfer case is what divided the engine torque to front and rear at a 40-60 split. Most transfer cases divide it 50 50. The Jag and BMWs like to give the car a rwd feel. This was an important part of the decision for me to get the Jag, I like rear torque bias

Bruce,
Early last week a new noise appeared. After running at Highway speeds for a few miles and coming to a stop, when I accelerate from stop there is a winding noise that revs w / the engine. It changes low to high with each gear change. To me it sounds like a power steering pump gone dry. I don't think it’s related to the engine accessories though because the sound goes away when I pop it out of gear and coast. It seems to need power on the drive train for it to occur.
They diagnosed it by me taking the tech for a HW run and he heard it. They thenran it up on the lift; listened underneathand said the transfer case was bad.
Unfortunately, the sound is still there so it’s going back in next week. Not sure if there is a bearing between the TC and the Tranny, but that is what it sounds like to me.
SpartanX,
Nooil on the garage floor where she sleeps. I usually catch stuff like vital fluids on the floor but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t leaking while driving. I really don't drive it hard…No snow here so I doubt I have ever broken the tires loose.
Maybe I didn't notice before on the old one, but it looks like the new transfer case has big fins on the bottom.

Bah humbug! That sucks so...hopefully you get feeling better...be careful to i hear pneumonia can take the best of us...my grandma had cancer and it was that which took her life not cancer itself. Man xtype rick 2k just for the transfer case! What a joke! That is crazy! Shoot you could get a totalled x type for around 5-10k and as long as the main components were good to go who cares seems like money better spent than 2k on just the part!

RE: beep beep beep
I had the transfer case " whine " on mine some time ago, but comes n goes with only 28k miles on her now. Usually worst when cold although has been fine for a while now.
Its the ABS light and engine management light that are a worry at the moment for me. The new warranty I have taken out should kick in in around 3 weeks time so fingers crossed till then to save what will no doubt be a sizeable bill!

aquill1,
It was free...warranty covered everything including the 06 X loaner...FYI, for whatever reason, mine seemed quicker It only had ~ 18K miles but it was pretty beat up.
peewee,
I don't think the TC was bad as the sound is still there. I'll know more next week when it goes back in.
JimC64,
This sound really just started last week. Quite honestly, I'm glad it doesn't come and go as it would likely be harder for them to identify...and hopefully fix.
