So i guess I don't really have a problem with the price, I'm just still a little worried about the Trans. and also that annoying shifter interlock noise. I want to buy it but I'm just still a little worried about the keep up costs, and unexpected issues.

Why can't the dealer fix the shift interlock as part of the deal?

I'm with nearly everyone else here - buy a late 2004 or newer car for around the same price. The 2002 and 2003 cars had so many problems that you're setting yourself up for a world of hurt, low mileage 2002 or not. The vast majority of the issues/problems posted on this site come from people who own 2002 or 2003 cars. Evey repair is going to add $$$ to the true cost of the car, and chip away at what a bargain you think you're getting now.

I bought a 2005, and after nearly 20,000 miles since I got it, I've had zero issues. The car's got 37,000 miles on it now, and has only ever been in the shop once for a minor warranty problem.

In contrast, a friend of the family bought an early 2004 X-Type for his wife at around the same time I bought mine - that car broke down and left them stranded five times over the course of 18 months before they got so fed up of the nuisance and $$$ that they sold it as quickly as they could. By this point, he was at his wits end and his wife dreaded driving the car out of fear that it would break down again - if they could have thrown the car out the window and stomped on it until it was dead, they would have.

Agreed. My 2006 with 44,000miles has had ZERO issues. Compare that to my prior reply about my 2002...
And to be quite honest, I thrash the Helll out of my Jags...

They say some of the cars "just do that." They are a buick dealer, and they brought it to a Jag specialty place (where i got my last car, actually) and they pretty much said don't worry about. I can't find a straight answer on how much it costs to fix, and wtf is even wrong with it?

I'm in MA with a 2004 for sale, if you're interested.

No, they just don't do that. They probably know what the problem is and don't want to spend the money to fix it before they sell it.Why take their word for it? Their number one interest is for themselves, not you. Why buy a car that has something about it that you are not comfortable with? At least do some additional research into the issue so at least you have a better idea what it may or may not be and if it is something that would need to be addressed know how much it would set you back. You could always have somethng written into the agreement about them fixing it down the road, but why take a chance? After the deal is done they could try and wash their hands of it and leave you with the cost of fixing it.

I'm notsure I get what is happening with it. Shift Interlock??? What is that and why would it click? Is that the gadget that keeps the shifter from shifting out of park without the brake pedal being pressed.

Yes.

It's not rocket science either - if they are passing it off as something they can't fix because it's a Jag item, well that's pretty freaking lame. Sounds like they are trying to slide it under the rug, hoping you get hooked on wanting the car and are willing to accept it.

Don't.

I have owned my 02 cat for a year, it had 87xxx on it when I bought it. I think I got a great deal. Great interior, nice paint job, great looking car, I paid 7200.00 for it. After a year I have 98xxx, and the car run and handles great. I think you can get a better deal than 11500 somewhere else.
