Good idea Thermo! I have a call into City College which has auto repair certification!

I also posted on Facebook Marketplace and within minutes had a promising reply.

so I may start a new thread but in looking up parts, I found that online parts stores are selling LEFT and RIGhT Jag Xtype catalytic converters!!!!!! Confusing to poor me! So I’m posting 2 photos:

Belle, unfortunately due to the situation you are in, the cats that you show above most likely will not be able to be installed. Because you are in California, the shop may be mandated to put in a 50 state legal cat (the ones you reference are only 46 state compliant). Now, it is possible that you can get away with that if you find a shop that can get away with installing a non-California cat into a car that is not registered in California. But, my experience with California is they do not have that exception. Granted, may want to try going for the CARB exclusion which states that you have to have something that is similar to what your car has, even if it is not california certified. Your best bet is going to be a person doing car repairs on the side and has some connections for getting that non-CA cat in their hands.

I wish you luck. Not trying to be a party pooper, but I have had my run ins with various state agencies and Cali is one of those states that doesn't play well with others.

I would think showing up at a local car show and asking the guys will get you a big list of people who will do this work for cash.

I spoke to a guy at a show who paid $800 for a tune-up as he could not find anyone who could do Points and Condensers anymore. I gave him my number really fast!
