Default Borla or Mina exhaust for an x type?

I am very interested in buying a new exhaust system for my 02 x type. Which is better, borla or Mina? I am looking for a clean sound with a low rumble like infinities have. Any suggestions?

My recommendation is to find a muffler shop in your area that has a pipe bending machine and to have a custom exhaust system built. It will be cheaper than one of the "named" exhaust systems and will fit better and be more tuneable. Look around to see you can find a high performance exhaust shop and go talk to them because they will be able to help out with muffler selection (i.e., tone, volume, and pitch) and will be able to suggest pipe size (i.e,. 2", 2.5", 3"). They might even have a dyno (doubtful since our cars are AWD, but you never know...) and that would allow for exact exhaust tuning.

I agree with PAB, you can get free flow mufflers and nice SS tips welded on for 1/2 the cost, but it'll be a crap shoot as to the sound, it's really subjective.

I personally like the Mina Gallery system with the 1.5 pipes each side look. You're looking for a 2.5" inlet system, but the restriction starts at the cat so if you are looking for huge HP (even 10HP) gains unless you start right at the manifold since our cats are mounted at the manifold you will be disappointed.

Hi ,
I recently fitted the mina exhausts to my '02 , 3.0 X - Type , I love them , they look great and sound fantastic , nice and deep , not loud or raspy or boy racer , also they fill the gap left by the stock boxes very well .

Mike.

I ended up getting the dual tips Mina exhaust. I installed them today and they fit the car perfectly. The dual tips and low rumble keeps it classy but sporty. I am very happy with them.

Nice one Spooky Pants , I went with the oval tips in the end , but it was a close call , maybe Mina would sell the tips seperately so we could have a change ?

Cheers ,

Mike .

I had borla on my old jag and I loved them, they were so sweet sounding. But I think next I'm going to go to a high performance muffler shop and see if they can do anything for me. I want a deep sweet rumble if you know what i'm talking about :P

I understand this thread may be dead, but I was just wondering from jaggyx and also mike what the cost of the magnaflow system was installed. I could install it myself, but it's really not worth it because exhaust shops are fairly cheap and have all of the right tools (pipe bender.) Thanks in advance!

I went with Mina because it was a good package deal. sound was a little different. i have a comparison on sights and sounds post. the biggest difference in sound was adding the Spectre intake. that made the most difference in sound. Borla does make some nice tips that you can put on a Magnaflow canister. ill try to get a video of Mina exhaust with the Spectre intake soon as i can
