RE: Is the Borla ricey?...
A V8 'rumbles', this is nothing like that.. Its a constant mellow tone. Not as high as some imports have, but not nearly as deep as one would expect...
Let me put it this way: It is DEFINATELY obvious you're running a muffler system, which I was hoping against. I wanted a deeperrumble that just sounds like a strong engine. The borlas may sound nice to many people, maybe even you, but they make it clear you've put mufflers on. And that might not be a good thing because its not the deepest tone nor is it rumbling like a V8...

RE: Is the Borla ricey?...
Well,
After 24 hours of Borlas I will say that I like them more now than before...
The sound is not as ricey as I thought, I think I was just very disappointed compared to the deep rumble I thought I would get. I guess I like the sound...
But it IS obvious you're running new mufflers, and that can be seen as ricey, especially when accompanied by the giant tips.
Which is also something I cant stand, the tips are HUGE. I loved the stocked tips, they were the perfect size...
Also, the Borla's hang too low for me... I want something that tucks nicely into the oval slots.
Ok, so whats the final verdict? If I could go back and do it again: I would still put the Borlas on. They sound nice, and you can get used to the big tips...
Its weird though to hear your actual engine 'growl' like ours do, almost a low rumble, then hear a constant mellow tone from the back. Doesnt match up very well...
Id rate them a 82% Happiness factor

RE: Is the Borla ricey?...
After another day with the Borlas I can honestly say I love em! They make the back of the car look soooo much sportier. I think the initial size surprised me - I like it now.
Its still weird hearing a growl from the engine bay and a constant tone from the rear... But it sounds nice.
And yes, Ill definately post a sound clip. I know how frustrating it is to not hear it before you buy it.
Probably tomorrow.

RE: Is the Borla ricey?...
Hard to make a v8 sound outof something that isn't a v8. Even 3.8 liter camaros and firebirds with no cat and flowmasters in the back still don't have the deep sound you look for. The engine is smaller so you won't have the sound, although my buddy has a 03 bonneville with the 3.8 and flowmasters and they sound good, not ricey at all just not like a v8. They get you noticed but not noticed like a 4 wheeled crotch rocket with a coffee can attached. I think the mufflers on the x look nice rather and the stock muffler tips are way too small. I guess I can't really comment when I don't have them on my car but I personally think they look and sound good for the small price you pay and what you get! I personally like the quad tipped exhaust on jaguarxp but the price of the borla far outweighs the looks and you could possibly get a different tip welded on couldn't you? When I do have the exhaust installed I'll take some good footage and pics of both before and after, now all I have to do is convince the wifey into sinking 500-600(parts and labor)into the exhaust..."Where'd you say you wanted to go on vacation honey???!!!!!!"
