brake caliper colour

Are you talking about original colour from the factory? They weren't painted. These are originally raw castings with a pretty poor Zinc dip. If you wanted to mimmick the original look, paint them silver.
After that, the world is your oyster - paint them any colour that pleases you. I've done several X-Type sets for my customers and sold a couple of sets on Ebay. I've done them in silver, red, yellow, green with a JAGUAR decal, sealed in clear.
I've posted a pic of a set I've done, but I don't think you'll see it until your post count is higher.

paul, like was mentioned, the factory calipers are raw steel. So, a gun metal gray/silver would be the closest that you can get. I have also painted my calipers. I went with black since I was trying to hide the calipers, not show them off. The big thing to keep in mind is that you can not paint them with just any paint. The brake components tend to get hot and a standard paint will tend to flake off due to the heat. You will need to find either engine block paint or you can also find the higher temp brake caliper paint. Going with the higher temp paints will limit your choices, but then, you won't be having to repaint the calipers every so often.

I have an XK8 and I painted my calipers red using caliper paint I bought at Advance Auto Parts. It has held up well and I've put about 8000 miles on the car since I painted them. Unless you're trying to go for a really sporty look on your X-Type, I'd stick to either silver or black. Red or yellow calipers on an X-Type might look kind of ghetto. Of course, that's just my opinion. You might be going for that look. Some people like that look, and to each his own.

ok thats great , thanks for all the replies. I deffinately don't want anything retro so will have to decide on silver or black , the car is silver & the wheels are to so maybe silver would be the best to blend in.
I did know about caliper paint , I painted my race spec mr2 turbo's calipers some years back , so fortunately I have done this sort of thing before, my dad is restoring a Lotus elan +2 & has a shot & bead blaster which did a great job on his calipers so I will do them at his place , I will change all the discs & pads while they are of as well.
