Buying an 04
Hello everyone, my name is Aaron, I may soon be a regular member here, assuming everything I hear from you is good. I currently have a 2003 Lincoln LS V8, that I am looking to trade for something slightly cheaper, I found a used 2004 X-Type for sale for $11,900, and have a few questions regarding the car.
First, does this sound like a decent deal? It's from a Ford dealership so.... you know. It's an 04 with high miles (71,000 miles), sunroof, navigation, reverse sensors, heated seats, 3.0L. I don't know what other features to look for. I plan to talk them down a bit, but will need a good look at the car for some details to go in with. I'm hoping around $10,900.
Are there any common problems that I should check for when I go back to look at it again. Any major problems with the cars in 04, any annoying rattles or sqeeks, loose/broken trim etc...
Any cool unique Jag features, I've had my Lincoln for a year and a half, and I'm still finding cool new things, a Jags gotta have even more right?
Any other misc. suggestions when buying an x-type, or any car for that matter?
Thanks for the help guys, it really is appreciated, you know how much fun buying a used car can be . . . . .

RE: Buying an 04
Hi Aaron and welcome..I think that is a fine deal..for an 04..The bugs were pretty much ironed out in this later year..you have great options, providing they all function properly..other than that, the name Jaguar speaks volumes about class and styling....If it were me..I would soon change ALL the fluids, regardless if they tell you they are for life..it will extend the car's life considerably..High miles? there are quite a few on the board with high miles and problem free..do a good carfax and any other follow up on the car before you take it..but it sounds like a fair deal as I said...Get the VIN and call a JAG dealer and see if all the scheduled maint has been done..Couple of the members here are Jag techs and can help you there.
PS, see if you can get an extended warranty still on this..anything will be better than nothing..Jag maintenance and repair costs aren't cheap...goes with the image me thinks.

RE: Buying an 04
Hello,
The big ticket repairs seem to be the transfer case and the prop (drive) shaft. I've had both mine replaced under warranty. Listen for a drivetrain noise and try to feel for any drivetrain vibrations over 55mph. Other than that, no major items I can think of. A few minor ones, but those are the big ones. Price seems right if the car is clean.
Welcome, there are some excellent people on this board. I'm sure you'll get great advice and feel as welcome as I did.
