Buzzing Sound in Dash
#21
The aspirator motor can run for up to 20 minutes after ignition off. The dust bunnies get sucked in there with the air that it is monitoring. You can reach up under dash and pull it out. It is a two piece motor. Clips in and the base is bolted in. Just pull it straight down and it will come out. Clean it and then put compressed air through the vent prior to reinstalling. The air can damage the motor itself. They are supposed to be silent. The dirt makes them noisey. They will replace under warranty if you are still under factory warranty. Otherwise, live with it or clean it.
Can you please clarify what you mean by "The air can damage the motor itself. " ? are you talking the aspirator motor or something else? Just wondering what the issues are if it goes unchecked until i bring it in for the next service.
thx!

I had our local Jag dealer "repair" this issue. My XK8 developed a buzz/vibration & it turned out to be a piece of insulating material that broke off & got into the squirrel cage of the blower. Well worth the $110. for them to fix the car.
I'd have it taken care of A.S.A.P. for fear of the issue leading to a more expensive repair. It's likely a simple fix that one can do themself???

Almost certainly the aspirator
As per earlier posts, it's probably the aspirator. Apparently, it's been a common problem on the X-Types, S-Types and even the XFs. I've just had a faulty one replaced on my XF-S - the dealer moved a seat to replace a faulty module on the pressure monitoring system and when I got back in the car to drive it away the aspirator started buzzing away - I can only assume they threw up dust and dirt that got sucked in and clogged it.

Buzz/rattle in dash & steering wheel. XK8 or any Jag.
Buzzing noise in dash as mentioned before, I had a piece of foam left over from when the car was factory "nailed together", in the blower squirrel cage.
Another buzz / rattle noise came from the dash securing bolt found under the right & left front dash speakers. All I needed to do was tighten it. Speakers were easy to pry, carefully, from their mountings with a small screw driver.
Yet another buzz noise came from the steering wheel airbag/horn cover. Just jammed a small piece of black foam around the edge & voila, it stopped buzzing.

buzzing sound in dash
Every so often I get a piece of foam rubber (grey green in color) come flying out of one of the dash vents - then the buzzing stops for a while until another chunk comes loose. Cost me a $100 bucks for Jaguar dealer shop to "fix" the 1st buzz & they said it was insulation, soooo . this may be an issue with some of you guys.???
