Default A/C Condensate

Does anybody have a good explanation as to why our X type holds its condensate water until it's turned off and sitting in the garage? Then it commences to dump the water on my garage floor. It's not frozen over either if that was anybody's guess. Could a drain line be constricted that prevents draining on the fly?

Stickman, the only way that I can see what you are talking about is you have a little bit of mung inside of the drip tray and when you turn on the fan, it is acting like a flapper valve and it is plugging up the drain line. Then, as you turn off the dash blower, this removes the pressure and the water then floats the mung out of the way, allowing the condensate to drain.

What you can try is to get yourself a can of Lysol and spray a bunch down the air inlet (under the cowl on the passenger side since you are in the US) with the blower set on low speed. The Lysol should get into the cooling system and it will kill a lot of the mung. Just make sure that you have the windows open when you do this and you can let the dash blower run for say 5 minutes before you need to drive the car.

The other option is to pull the dash fan down and then spray it directly into the bottom of the catch tray. But you will still want to give the car 5 minutes of blowing fresh air through the dash before you try to drive the car.
