May A/C has been okay the majority of the summer (in Arizona) but for the past month or so it has been on and off. Switching from blowing really cold air to hot air. Until last week I didnt notice a difference until a colleague rode with me and said the air wasnt getting that cold....long story short I was driving on the highway on Sunday and out of nowhere the A/C started blowing very warm air, I pulled off the highway, opened the hood, and it smelled like sh*t and it was smoking lightly, but there was still a lot of freon/coolant. I let it cool off, turned off the A/C and drove another 30 miles or so, the interior temperature gauge was fine. When I came to a stop i heard a rattling noise which sounded like the belt may have burned off.
I dropped the car off at the shop today...got the call back...Too much pressure had been built up, and it was leaking fluid (possibly), the belt burnt and snapped, the air compressor melted. He said that replacing the a/c compressor would not fix the issue because the whole system was jacked up.
compressor & clutch=$1,029
condenser=$544
____ receiver=$203
orphis tube=$120
Receiver dryer=$58
Labor $702
he said some of the parts he could get after market but the majority had to be Jaguar. He did more shopping and was able to get me a lot of the parts at cost.
Total parts would be $1842 but he would charge me $1415 and throw in the oil, solvent, and freon at no charge, and he would drop the labor to $589.
I'm looking at $2134
The fake $1500 warranty I purchased 2 years back with the car (50,000 mile 5 years)wont cover sh*t. My mechanic said he works a lot with Guardian or Wheels, and if I had that warranty ($1800) they would have covered this job, plus the tranny or any other issue.
I bought the car with 50k miles, now has 72K after 2 years. Is it pointless to think of wheels and anymore customization? Anyone have a warranty that has helped them out?? I guess I'm just venting...
Needless to say the Lowering and Rim's that were a week away from being ordered are now out of the question.
