This week temps ranged from 95-100 dg and wouldn't you know it, my a/c starts acting crazy. The 2 vents on passenger side blow cold air nicely, the 2 vents on driver's side blows warm air. The dealership says it a bad air distribution box and wants $2865.00 to replace it. That's a third of what I paid for the car 2 months ago and of course the extended warr I got does not cover this. Has anybody ran into this problem or know where I might be able to get this part as I believe I could replace it myself. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Btw, it's an 02 X Type 3.0.

 

This is apparently a fairly common problem in these cars. I remember seeing posts about it but cant find them now. Hopefully one of the guys will drop in and help us out....I have the same issue.

i had the same issue just this week. i serviced a/c with refrigerant and achieved equal temperature on both sides.

had exactly the same problem two weeks ago.
very high outside temeperature > 35 C
checked first the recyc door.that was oke
then checked the gas of the a/c ,just added a little bit and the problem was gone!!!!!
both sides are cold again
