Can the flywheel be machined/resurfaced or not?
I have the engine out to get a new gearbox fitted.
The clutch has not been giving me any problmes but the car has 150000 km on it so the clutch is due for replacement. Obviously it is a lot of labour so best to do it while the engine is out anyway.
The clutch plate and Pressure plate are reasonably cheap but the flywheel is expensive. The alternative to replacing the flywheel is machining it but that is only possible on certain types of flywhel.
The mechanic (non Jaguar) says he does not know if the flywheel on the x-type can be machined or not and he won't know until he pulls it apart. So does anybody know if the x-type flywheel is machineable before I start ordering parts?

Mojo, I think the real question to this is how much you need to machine off of the flywheel. If you are talking only say 0.010" or less, then I would think you would be able to have that machined with no problems. You start talking more than that, then you are running into clearance issues and a lack of sufficient pressure to get good adhesion to transfer the power from the motor to the drive train.
