iownme, the size difference between the two is fairly insignificant. You should be fine with that size tire. Just keep in mind that your speedo will be off by 3.3%. So, when it is indicating 60MPH, you will actually be travelling 62 mph. Just something to keep in mind.

They will rub.
I am assuming your Sport currently has 225/45/17 tires. The rolling radius is 199.27 cm.
The 205/50/17 that you are considering has a rolling radius of 206.50 cm. That is a difference of 7.23 cm or about 2.75 inches.
They are also narrower and will handle quite differently.
