Cant remove door handle

iownme: I had a similar problem, ahhhh challenge, removing the lock actuator inside the rear door of my X-Type. Our cars are mass produced on an assembly line, so whatever goes together quickly, comes apart the same way (unless they glue it). We just need to figure out how it was assembled, and reverse the process.
That metal rod you're fighting is likely gripped at the bottom by a nylon clasp. Release the nylon clasp, then swing the bar horizontally to clear the hole as you remove the door handle. Look at the attached pdf to see the nylon clasp on the door actuator I removed, and how to release the clasp. Your door handle probably has a similar release mechanism.
Also, look at pictures in this thread of another nylon clasp inside an X-Type door: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...oor-faq-48827/
Two more thoughts:
1) Reach into your door and snap a picture of the nylon clasp with your iPhone.
2) Look on eBay or the Internet for pictures of this part posted by a recycler.
It's easier to figure out once you've seen it.
When you're done, post pictures of the nylon clasp and how you released it. I may be the next guy trying to do the same repair!

The problem seems to be the barrel of the lock is trying to come out with the door handle. On all pics ive seen on the internet, the barrel is removed.
Is the lock barrel supposed to come out with the handle?
The handle is totally loose and wants to come out, just the lock is stopping it.
Odd as there is a cutout in the door panel behind the lock so the whole lock should be able to slide sideways, then out.
Also.. On the internet pics, the part of the handle where the rod connects shows a "U" as opposed to a hole for the grommet to slide into.
I was able to snap the grommet back into the "U" but as soon as i tried to open the door, the rod pulled out again. So i think maybe part of my "U" has broken off, though it did feel comlplete.
So any ideas about the lock barrel issue?.
No way of getting any camera shots in that area
