Car has a squeaky moan sound when I first move it?
I have an 02 x-type 3.0 with 122,000. I had the brakes and rotors replaced in november and thought this would correct the sound. Whenever I move the car after it has been sitting for over 1 hour it makes a squeaky moan noise that sounds like it's coming from the rear of the car. Is this rust on the rotors that is being scraped off from the brake pads? It started doing this only in the summer when i washed the car, now it does it in the cold and when it has rained. I live in ohio so it's very damp and cold this time of year, so it almost always makes a squeaky moan noise after it sits. It would only do it occasionaly in the summer now it does it everytime I move it after extended periods of time. Is this normal, or could this be something more serious like the TC case? (I have had all the facotry maintence done)

But while I'm on the subject, TC noises/failure have nothing to do with whether you have had all of the factory maintenance done or not. The TC never gets mentioned in the factory service schedule and therefore never gets touched by the factory technicians during routine maintenance, due to the fact that it is allegedly "sealed for life".

Trailing Arm bushings only affected 05-08 model years. The brake pads on those years are also different, the 05-08 years. I would suspect that the inner pad is getting stuck. I would remove the pads. Sand and clean the top and bottoms on the caliper bracket where the pads sit. Clean/grease those top and bottom pieces really good. Also make sure the caliper piston is postioned correctly before putting everything back together.

2011, I would venture to guess that what you are experiencing is the arm for the E-brake is starting to get excessive drag, which is not letting the brakes release 100%. This can be fixed by accessing the caliper, removing the arm for the e-brake and then lubing it up with some grease and then putting it all back together. If the problem is internal, the only solution at that point is new calipers (I've replaced both of my back calipers for about $100 each due to them binding up on the e-brake lever).

I am not mechanically inclined, so how much time does this typically take, and do you think an independent garage could correct the issue or should I take it to the dealer. I am not too concerned about the noise, so can I wait to correct it or does this need to be addressed soon? As long as it dosen't cause other issues, I am fine with waiting.

Newbie, can you change a tire? If so, you can do this work yourself. All you have to do is remove the tire and then you will see the e-brake cable coming in from the front. You remove the bolt holding the lever in place, slide some grease between the lever and the caliper and tighten the bolt back down. From there you put the tire back on. It is pretty straight forward.

I have an 02 x type and was one of the first to get the jag engineers involved. I described it as "the sex moan"
they had the transfer case changed, drive shafts, they finally narrowed it to the rear brakes needing to be chamfered on the edges. cured the problem but it depends replacement brake pads I've used during the life of the car. Sometimes it comes back. After 178,000 pretty trouble free miles and still running with the original clutch I don't pay much attention to small sounds like that.

High mileage X-Type
I have had no engine or drivetrain failures so far (except for driveshaft vibration on my 2.5L:
2002 2.5 L = 315,000 km
2002 3.0 L = 217,000 km
I did have an oil seep at the (pinion?) seal between the TC case and the driveshaft, and had both fixed at the dealer after I hear how expensive a new TC is.
