PerezRP:
Welcome to the forums!
how cold IS it there? Mine has the same struggle at or below about 15 degrees F.
I have foudn that just a slight throttle for about 30 seconds will keep it running, and then it'll stay there on it's own.
I'm not suggesting rev the thing cold, i'm suggesting just a slight throttle to keep the RPM's around 1K.
Now, what causes it? Why won't it do it on it's own? I haven't dug into mine deep enough to find-out yet, but others have, and if you do a search, you'll probably find some threads on replacing some o-rings under the top cover of the motor.... ??

RE: car struggles to turn on in the morning
perezrp101 Welcome to the forum. I am a Chicago native as well. I really think what you are experiencing is resistance within steering pump and rack due to the extreme cold and stiffness of the fluids. My X-Type sits outside and the past few weeks it makes many noises I never heard before. I got in the habit of starting it up and letting it run at least 10 minutes before I drive it. For the record the past week the AM temperature was in the -20 F range, yes you heard correct it has been AWFULLY cold.

RE: car struggles to turn on in the morning
Could this be a Metalurgical problem ? metal at zero degrees may have an effect esspecialy as there are many types of ferris and none ferris metals in and around the engine, giving a cryogenic type property to the components. as an added idea...... I had a problem with my battery due to the cold weather, I cut a small piece of 1/4" thickpolystyrene, and put it under the battery........ had no further problems.
