Default car went through flood

got caught in a flood today and had to drive through some deepish (for a jag) water, i drove through it for approx 10-20 secs (guestimate) and i know the water went over the exhaust (the guy behind told me after)

The car drove fine, both through it and the next 15 miles (got onto the interstate and drove 65mph)
Have not tried starting the car since this happened (about 7 hrs ago)

is there anything i need to do or worry about?

If electronics didn't go haywire and your car didn't stall this should not present any problem .

I remember when I first bought my Mustang Cobra I went down to Southern California in it for my first trip. On the way back the Grapevine was closed, which is really the only way to get from SoCal to Northern California. I pulled out my map and found a route around it. However, on the map I couldn't see it was mostly dirt roads. At one point I had to cross a stream.... It must have been about a foot and a half deep, and of course my car was low to the ground. Whatever, I just quickly plowed through it. LOL.

I drove my car on the beach this summer - corolla, NC for those who know. There was sand everywhere and my x type didn't get stuck and no damage. I even saw a Subaru outback that had gotten stuck!

So it is a tough little car....

Oh, gosh, I'm so sorry. Hopefully you got all the personal stuff above the water-line and can count on insurance taking care of everything else.

I can't physically lend a hand, but my thoughts are with you.

All the best,

Sorry to hear! This has been a heck of a time lately. In Maryland, we went through the earthquake, hurricane, and still getting soaked from the tropical storm.

Wish you well!

iownme, sorry to hear about loosing your house. HOpefully things will work out for you.

As for the car, as long as you kept the motor running, you should not have any issues. The exhaust coming out of the car is more than enough to keep any water out of the exhaust system. I know from personal experience as I have had the exhaust of my truck 3 feet under water as I drove through over 4 feet deep water (I know, not my brightest moment). So, take what you have, keep your love ones close and forge on ahead in life. You really have what matter most, your family.

way to keep a positive attitude iownme, if we can help at all, please let us know. I assume, however, you do have relatives/friends that you are staying with in the meantime?

I think flood insurance (like earthquake coverage) is usually a totally different policy, unlike fire, theft, wind, hail, etc that most homeowners keep. You won't be the only one losing entire homes to that storm and flood. Maybe there will be disaster relief that you can qualify for...if our government does anything to help out.

Same here. I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. Hope it all works out in the end as well as possible for a loss of this magnitude.

update: heard from a neighbor that the water just got waist high. He originally thought the house was gone (i live right next to the river)
Have not been able to get home to check the damage yet, but hope to be there later this week, so a big relief for me.
Spent this week cleaning my boss's flood damage...what a week...lol

thanks for all the best wishes, they really helped
