Default catalytic converter troubleshoot

car started to misfire bank 2 (only when you gassed it) codes came up po302 , p1314, p1000. sounds like back pressure in the cat caused the misfire. so i pulled the cat out but have no way of telling if its good or not? the cat itself looks fine but how can i tell if it is clogged inside. i don't want to replace it until i am 100% sure this one is bad because these aren't cheap

The following threads discuss how to clean a catalytic converter. Sounds like a cheap fix since they are already off.

I realise that you've already pulled your cat, but what my mechanic had me do was pull the upper O2 sensor on the offending side, leave it plugged in electrically and go for a drive around the neighborhood. this allowed the back pressure to escape and my jag held 5,000 rpm without any trouble at all. we swapped the cat the next week and it did fix the misfire/restricted performance problem

Its very easy to remove that side cat. I took it out in ten minutes gutted it and put it back with no problem. It didn't affect my o2 sensors either. Beats spending 500 on a new one. I tried the cleaning method first but it didn't work

That looks like the front cat--mine was bad--the matrix was broken so I had to buy the $600 from Jagbits but the rear was throwing codes too--I cooked it on my outdoor grill for 8 hours with 2 lbs of citric acid in a 32 qt pot in January that was 16,000 miles ago and no codes--I now cook cats for all my friends haha

Did you add 1 ounce of Sodium Chloride and 1 ounce of Piperine?

(Seems appropriate to me)

I have been to some crazy BBQ's, but your idea of a BBQ is the craziest!

or should have used a back pressure guage in the open port from the upstream 02. Or use a IR temp gun to check the body for overheating(plugged)
