Catastrophic Engine Failure
I am an original owner of a 2003 x-type with 2.5 motor. All dealer maintenance. I absolutely loved (past tense) this car. The engine seemed to get better as it broke in.
At 100k miles, dealer changed the oil and shortly their after experienced sudden, catastrophic engine failure. Prior to oil change, engine was in peak form.
Towed to dealer who determined it was internal engine but would not open it up to pinpoint problem.
They told me they do not perfom ANY internal engine diagnostics or work.
I was basically told to walk away from the car and check out their new and used models.
A little puzzled and perturbed, I had it towed to a third party mechanic who performed an "autotopsy" and determined that the failure was engine oil related and the fault of a defective oil filter.
I have called Jag USA and started a claim, I hope this will end without legal action (which I am prepared to take). I await their call back.
Any thoughts or comments on any portion of this post would greatly be appreciated.
s/ broken hearted Jag owner.

RE: Catastrophic Engine Failure
Hello Speedracer,
I am sorry to hear about your car. I hope things work out for your car.
this makes me concerned especially since this happened at a dealer and I always get an oil change at a 3rd party mechanic.
I am surprised Jaguar is not being more helpful. I hope you are stern with them because it sounds like it was a problem caused by an oil change at the dealer.

I hate to hear that man, sorry for the troubles...But you made a perfect example of why I always use the OEM Jag Filter...I hope it was a fluke..but Jag is still responsible 100%

My money is on something anomalous like somebody forgot to check if the oil filter ring on the old filter came out when changing the oil or something like that. Again, this is if the third-party is indeed correct and the culprit is indeed the filter.
Regardless, tis a pity. Hope you can get it ressolved w/o having much a hassle.

Didn't he just say it was dealer-maintained? If anything that would only refute the "perfect example."

That sucks man. [>:]I would hate to see any car go down that way. Let us know how that claim ends up.I also use OEM Jag oil filters. I bought a lot of 10 with drain plugs for like $40 on ebay. I go with OEM parts, even though I dont have any extended warranty. Just piece of mind for me.

RE: Catastrophic Engine Failure
The dealer told Jaguar that I told them that we drove the engine while it was overheating. This is completely false b/c the engine never overheated.
Alsoclaimed they won't stand behind a 3rd party mechanic's diagnosis. I tried to explain to them real slowly that the car was initially towed to the dealer (who are the only mechanics to ever lay hands on the car in its history) who refused to open the engine to determine the failure. The Jaguar rep could not grasp this catch 22 she was presenting as basis for denial. It was obvious that this was an aggessive denial situation. I am familiar with this type of stance in my work.
We will just have to present the facts to the Court and let them review it.

If the 3rd party diagnosis is correct I hope you get the outcome yoiu deserve and compensation for their lies, denial and generally putting down barriers for you to have to get over each step.
You guys who fit your own filters, etc even though they are from Jag, I dont thinkno matter how goodyou are would have a claimas the work has been done by an unapproved 3rd party and not a dealer.
