I have my 02 x type for about 5 yrs now and when I received it the passing gear was slipping. I been babying it sense then.
Now I am ready to put a used one in. Because of the high cost to rebuild
so to my question. What is it I need to look for in a donor transmission? Good and bad.

Let me consult my chrystal ball......dang!! Everything is blank. Lol.
Buying a used one is like any used item, a gamble. Roll the dice and sometimes you roll a 7, sometimes it's snake eyes. ReMANUFACTURED (not rebuilt) is the safest purchase. Down side is cost vs value of a pre 2004+ (17 year old) car.

Find used gearbox 'like-kind' from salvage yard then change out units??
Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market
Here is a document (TSB) that shows a revised method for gearbox replacement. Most of us already changed them out this way but the original JAGUAR method was to drop the entire engine/transaxle still mounted to the front suspension subframe. (Jaguar was a little slow to catch on to a more efficient method)
From the document.....
Transmission Replacement Procedure
Note: This is a different Workshop Procedure than the one currently described in JTIS 19.
