Default Child safety locks x-type SE D 2004

Jaguar X Se D 2ltr. 2004. In UK

The manual issued with car describes switching the child safety door lock feature on with a key in the door itself. However I've searched all over the door and there is nowhere to insert a key to do this. The doors will lock from inside the car using the chrome electronic handles. Could anyone with same car or knowledge of this possibly help. The car is fairly new to me so I've a lot to discover about it.

You open the rear door. Look at the locking lever. There is a hole in it for the key to bey inserted. You will see arrows for lock/unlock. Turning your key outwards will disable the interior door handle. Repeat for the opposite passenger door.
Oh and by the way welcome to the forum there are many knowledgeable and kind folks here willing to help.

Hi Vern
Thanks for that. I did find a small white plastic thing that turns within the door lock mechanism that locks to the body when shut, I turned that but it makes no difference and doors are still opening from inside. I would be grateful if someone could maybe post a photo of exact location of where tthis child lock adjustment is. Maybe it's staring me in the face and my old eyes are letting me down. Or could it be different on different models of x-type. Any advice appreciated.

The instructions already posted agree with my owners manual.
Yes the small white plastic item in the door is the activate/deactivate device.

It is just a convenience that just the tip of the ignition key fits the square hole in the plastic thing.
So you are not looking for anywhere to insert the full length of the key's blade.

I have just tried activating /deactivating it and it works to spec.

Default Here is a pic I took of child safety lock

This is the plastic part in edge of door in door lock. Tried turning it and it does not appear to set the child lock in either direction. Rear doors can still be opened when turned in either direction.

I don't know for sure how you are testing but if you are sitting parked the doors will open. The feature I think is once you drive away it will engage. Try
driving the vehicle, when the drive away locking engages come to a stop and see if the passenger can open the rear door. When parked any door should be able to be opened from the inside.

Hi Avern. The OP is referring to child safety locks which when operated by a turn of the key in the door will only allow the rear doors to be opened from the outside.
