Default Chrome bumper moulding trims on 2008-2010 model

With 2008 restyling the chrome bumper moulding trim (chrome blades front and rear, left and right) are not anymore present on both rear and front bumper but I liked a lot as available on pre 2008 model. Anyone can tell me if ghrome blades can be installed on 2008-2010 model ? I know that the blade recess is not available in 2008 bumpers but I suppose that the blades can be positioned on the bumper even if the recess is not there.
Tks for suggestions. essepi

Hello & welcome . Please note that apart from recesses in the pre facelift bumper , there are also pre cut square holes to receive the attatched snap tab fixings on the Chrome blades ..

From what I've read, the bumpers just bolt on, so if you can find ones in matching paint (research the paint codes), it shouldn't be difficult. It'd be a lot tidier that way too, rather than trying to stick on the chrome blades. I saw a youtube video of one guys X-Type, one bumper was pre-facelift while the other was post-facelift.

OP: too bad you're not in the US. I'd swap my chromed bumbers for your chromeless bumpers in a heartbeat!

I have been thinking of doing the same thing on my 04 xjr. Would like to add 09 bumpers and integrate the chrome moldings. Hope your project turns out well!

thanks for usefull suggestions. The reason is that I like chrome in general and I have in mind to buy a used (of course) X-type; however most recent are 2008 restyled that don't have chromed bumpers. IF, as suggested, I can add chromed bumpers to 2008 model I can solve my dilemma. essepi

I completely understand; I too prefer the older-style bumpers.

I'm not sure whether they changed the paint colours available when the facelift occurred, so at worst you might have to have the old-style bumpers re-painted to match the rest of the car.

I do also recall that in the small facelift around 2003-2004, there was some pdf on the changes and it said the front and rear bumpers were changed to "bolt on" for easier removal during service. It's thus possible the earliest model bumpers might not be interchangeable.

Hi I have an 04 xtype and the mouldings on the bumper are the same colour as the car, how do the mouldings come off as I would like to get them chromed.
Thanks Mike

I'm not sure about the specifics, but you will need to take the bumpers off to get the bumper blades off.

Since you live in UK where X-Types are fairly common, wouldn't it be easier (and cheaper) to just buy a set of 2nd hand chromed bumper blades?

If you were in the US I'd offer to swap my chrome for your painted (assuming your car is black).
