Cleaning wooden/leather steering wheel?
My X has the beautiful wooden and leather (or rubber?? or vinyl??) steering wheel.
Similar to this one: http://media.caranddriver.com/images...s-1280x782.jpg
But mine has the Ivory interior, so the steering wheel trim is tan.
The wheel is in fantastic condition, but there is some wear/discoloration at the 10 and 2 o'clock position. I suppose the old lady who owned it before me used a lot of hand cream or something along those lines.
I'm looking for suggestions of how to clean these areas. I don't want to use anything that will damage the finish. Would a leather cleaner, like Lexol, do the trick? I'm not sure that it's really made of leather, so I don't know what type of cleaning product to look at.
Thanks all.

You might try a good saddle soap rather than Lexol, which I think is a little harsh. I've had good luck with it on steering wheels and soft leather in other vehicles. If I may add to your question, the leather on my steering wheel has completely worn through. Anyone have an idea as to the cost and complexity of replacement?

If your VIN is below D55322 then I assume your "tan" steering wheel and upper dashboard are officially Sable (AEK). If your VIN is above D55321 then they should be Mocha (AMB). Those two are the only non-black trims available with Ivory.
All listed here.
I've taken the trim off a half-wooden X-Type wheel myself, I can verify it's real leather. I bought my wood/leather steering wheel on eBay and it came with black leather (since I considered matching wood more important than matching leather), so I had a upholstery shop re-trim it for me.
The re-trimming of the wooden wheel was 150 EUR and they said it took 8 hours to do, which sounds fairly correct as in a documentary it was mentioned that it takes Bentley craftsmen 2 full working days to trim a steering wheel. However, a non-wooden steering wheel would of course have more bits to do than the wooden one, so I'm not sure how that'd affect the price. At least with the prices here in Finland it would be significantly cheaper to buy a 2nd hand wheel online than to have one re-trimmed...
