Exclamation Clunk - or Bump - Right Rear Axle?

Test driving an X-Type yesterday with my mechanic. Everything checked out fine and it's a solid car - one thing had us both wondering about the right read axle.

When coasting at 30 to 45 MPH and then a light acceleration we hear and feel(slightly) a bump or clunk sounding like the right rear axle.

Are we correct? A visual inspection revealed nothing.

I know the replacement isn't that big of a deal - maybe an hour. Is that also correct?

Default Downloaded The Workshop Manual

While waiting for someone to give me a little local knowledge on the X-Type, I downloaded the Workshop Manual and went through the troubleshooting. From what I gathered if it was the axle I would have gotten a metallic sound instead of what I heard as a bump or clunk (like hearing someone lightly hitting the other side of a wall from your room). Made me feel a little better. I then continued to read through every post containing anything about the rear drive axle and differential and read nothing that sounded anything like what I described.

I have come to the conclusion (and if someone agrees or disagrees please tell me) that it could be within the norm to hear and feel what I did as the normal engagement of the read axle/differential.

Please, if anyone has anything to add here I would appreciate it. The person selling the car is out of town until Sunday and we will talk about the purchase Monday. I'd like to feel confident one way or another about the situation before I write a check.

Sounds like a bush has gone. The lower ones are alot easier than the top to replace. They are as cheap as chips to buy, and any spanner man can replace them.
