After the X has sat for a day or so. I hop in, and it takes about 10 minutes before I can even shift with "ease". I have to force it into gear and lift the clutch pedal back with my foot in order to shift again.
Sounds like somthing major, so if it is, just let me know so I can be prepared to dish out the cash, AGAIN for a drivetrain issue.
I love my car, but this is starting to annoy me quite a bit. This may be my last Jaguar if I continue to have problems like this.

Throwout bearing is bad. I would start with the small stuff, check clutch fluid and possibly some binding. If all checks out, be prepared to spend some bucks.
I would replace the entire clutch assy (since they gotta tear it all apart to get to the bearing, might as well replace the entire clutch)

Throwout bearing was just replaced this past december, along with the clutch, flywhweel, PP assembly. Does the X have a pedal return spring that would cause this? Could it be the clutch master cylinder?
Whatever it is, I'm gonna have to get it resolved soon. I have to make a trip to Virginia next Saturday and I have to get it diagnosed well before then. Problem is, I'm stuck in training and I can't go anywhere...[:@]

Easy, if you have some basic tools.
1. Ramps or floor jack
2. 1 qt of brake fluid Dot 4 or better
3. Metric assorted wrenches
to get started
1. raise car or drive on ramps
2. open hood and locate your slave cylinder
3. Open cap
4. use some sort of sucking device to suck the old fluid out
5. top off with new fluid
6. get under vehicle and locate hyd line coming out of slave cylinder and going into clutch assy. Crack that line open.
7. keep topping of the slave cyl from the top.
8. when you see clear fluid coming out, tighten line back up
9. top off with clean fluid.
If the problem still persists, you may need a new slave cyl

Hi all, I know this is a really old topic but i just wanted to add a few things so if like me people are looking for a answer mine will be definitive for all who read it.
I have a 2004 2.0 Diesel X-Type, it was running fine but one day the clutch went very stiff and i mean stiff, it was like working out at the Gym, the pressure I had to apply to it was alot just to press it down, this to me indicated a problem straight away but i put it down to the cold weather as it was in the minuses during the night.
The next two days it was the same, very hard to press down, but on the third day when it had been parked up whilst I was at work, again very cold outside, i started the car drove around 10 yards and then realised the clutch pedal hadn't returned to its natural position. I parked the car up and kept it running hoping it would return but knowing deep down it would not. The break fluid low sign came on the dashboard and i though putting more in would solve it but it didn't, it just kept coming up with break fluid low, which obviously meant there was a leak somewhere. Whilst started I cud not put it into gear.
I had the car towed back to the driveway and had it looked soon after by a Jag specialist right near my house how lucky was that. They stripped it down and the problem was revealed. The slave cylinder seal had disintegrated / failed, allowing the brake/clutch fluid to leak, even into the gear box. When they removed the gear box you should have seen the fluid which came out, the clutch flywheel was covered in break fluid, they kept the parts to one side for me so i could see the full extent of the damage.
The master / slave cylinder were replaced and a new clutch flywheel, it cost me £750 which is roughly $1400, it really hurt because it happened just like that and its a good job i have a credit card. it now drives fine and fuel consumption has also gone down. If anyone is going through what i did pls get in touch if u have any questions whatsoever. Hope this helps to clarify a few things for pple. Please see my other post as I have had other issues and will do my best to make sure pple know.
