Default Confusion with the transmission fluid & crankcase fluid

I'm going to do my transmission flush on my 04 x type however I'm somewhat confused on some of the post. I MEAN TRANSFER CASE NOT CRANKCASE. understand how to do the transmission flush but I'm confused on what I read about crankcase needing a small amount ( ml ) of new oil? Could somebody clarify this for me. And do I really need to replace the drain plug and new washer on the transmission pan? Thx so much guys

I use Mobile 1 synthetic gear oil (75W-140) for the transfer case. This is the same oil that goes in the rear differential. If you're under there anyway, I recommend changing the RD fluid too. However, you have to use a siphon pump with a tube to get the old fluid out.

I understand from Steve Hannes Jag blog that the capacities are so:

TC: 625mL
RD: 1.74L
