Coolant cap stuck

So for a long time I've had a coolant cap that at first looks easy to screw off, then it just keeps turning and nothing happens.
I thought there must be some sort of safety feature so I consulted the manual which told me nothing. I then tried pulling, pushing whilst twisting, tired to lever it with a screw driver gently but the damn thing just won't pop off. Now my coolant is below minimum and it's summer here so I would really like to top it up with some fresh coolant.
Any ideas?

To screw it back on you literally have to hit it with your palm so that it grabs on to the screw threads and voila..its back on..
My concern though is..if we are using these unsual methods to remove nd replace the cap..does it effect the pressure specs? ?..perhaps someone has had some experience

Billbjork, plums and anonymousdroid that has to be it! I haven't tried it yet but yes I can unscrew the cap all the way to basically what looks to be the top but then it just doesn't budge from there. I guess more brute force is require to take it that extra further till it comes off. I shall try shortly!
Thanks
