Default Coolant flush? and Fob question ANSWERED

I'm taking my car to the shop to get my fluids changed for the winter and was talking to the shop owner about what type of coolant has to go in the car. He showed me a collection of maybe a dozen different colored coolants and explained the color meant nothing but only the spec. Then he said he would flush and replace and condition. My question is what is condition?
My fob question, it opens the doors and trunk but will not lock the doors, I have to use the key. What I have noticed is if I lock the door with the key it just locks the doors but if I press the lock on the fob and then lock with the key the lights will flash and horn will blow. To me it seems as though the fob is communicating with the car but not locking the door. Not a big deal to get a new fob but I don't want to get one and have the same problem.
Thanks

Default Key fob

Hi.

If I try to lock the car with the fob with a door open, the car will not lock and the horn blows twice. Same could happen if you have a failure in one of the door closed sensing switches.

Default No luck with the search

Tried doing a search here and the web for door closed sensing switch but all I came up with were people having problems with the door ajar light staying on. Mine does not have that problem. I'll hold tight I'm sure someone will have an answer.

I know yours is a 2005 and mine is a 2003 but I had the same problem of the remote not locking the doors and there wasn't any message of doors or boot not being closed. I finally discovered the problem and it was the rubber boot on the bonnet switch had come loose and not allowing that switch to completely close. There's no warning message for the bonnet being open apparently. Once the boot was in place on the bonnet switch everything was fine. Might be worth a look.
Can't help you on the cooling system conditioning, don't know what he's trying to say. I simply drain and replace coolant with Prestone 50/50 Long Life(the Orange stuff) I buy at Walmart. Use the same in my XK8.

Thanks oyster I think I'm good on the fob now. Now to find out what this this coolant conditioner is all about. Searched the web and only see that Subaru has this treatment.

Gman, normally when I hear "conditioning" a coolant, what they are talking about is adding something to the coolant like an anti-rust agent. This is meant to prevent the aluminum in the radiator from rusting or something else of the sort. In short, you are simply adding a zinc based product to the coolant so that the zinc will oxidize before the aluminum does. Nothing all that special.

As for your door, try this: manually cycle the driver's door lock button to lock and unlock the doors a few times. Then, get out of the car, close all the doors, and then try to lock the doors using the fob. What I have found with my car is that the driver's door lock will stick (known issue with the X-Types) and if the car does not sense the driver's door lock moving, it will not do the locks on the other doors. It actually pulses one door at a time, waiting for the lock to start to move before the next door is pulsed. Listen closely, you will hear each door get locked.

Oh yeah, the boot, is the trunk. Kinda like if you hear people talking about the bonnet, that is the hood. Different way of saying the same thing. Just the british verses the american way of calling things. Kinda like what you would think of you main beams as being your low beams, to the british, main beams are what you would call the high beams. The british call the low beams "Dip Beams". Confusion at its finest

I was just wondering if it was safe to put conditioner in there, I used to be sort of a motor head back in the 70's but things have changed so much I'm afraid to touch anything anymore. Back then I could swap out a tranny in about an hour and they cost about $100.

I found the micro switch under the hood and held it down while trying to lock with the fob and no luck, it was dark windy and cold so I couldn't look around. You'd think they put a light in there, maybe there is and that don't work either.

To me that sounds like a faulty door lock or the lock button on your fob is faulty

Gman, no light under the hood. I also wish there was one. But, not to be unless you wire up one yourself.

As for the conditioner, if you think it will make a difference, go for it. Just make sure to treat the conditioner as water when figuring out the 50/50 mix of coolant.

Gavin, yes I'm beginning to think it's the fob, I just didn't want to buy if I could find a fix for free. The dealer just got me for $175 for just the key part and wanted $200 for the fob. I can get one on line for less than $50.

Thermo, the conditioner is just part of the flush service at the shop. Seems every time I need to do something on the car its during winter when its too cold. I don't have a garage to use so I pay to have it done.

Thanks everyone for the replies!

Is there any way to check the fob to see if its working? Like testing the circuit board on it. Hate to rush off and spend $50 on a new fob.
