Coolant hose

My son's 2005 X type 2.0D manual Classic has a water leak somewhere between the radiator and the engine block. The local garage would do it but do not know how much it would cost to replace the hose. They ordered one costing about £14 which is a bendy 'S'? type shape which Jaguar says is the common one to go. My question is: how easy is it to replace this hose? He said that the garage might have mentioned an oil filter or oil cooler where the hose goes into but is not sure.
Sorry for the lack of info. We are trying to save money by doing it ourselves but do not want to start something we cannot finish.
Cheers

Welcome to the forum Brian,
Most of our members have petrol models but should still be able to advise about cooling hose replacement on a diesel model.
There's a few of the hoses could be described as 'S' shaped so here is the Parts Catalogue section to aid identification of the one you want to replace:

If you confirm the hose, I'm sure the model experts will know exactly how to replace it.

meddy, if you have basic mechanical ability, you can replace the hose. Odds are, your problem is the lower radiator hose that runs between the radiator and the thermostat. To access, you will need to drop the plastic plate that is under the engine (need a T25/T27 torx bit, available at any place that sells tools). From there, you will see the hose running from the center of the car to the right (as you are laying under the car with your feet sticking out the front of the car). The big trick will be getting the rubber unstuck from the metal tubing. But, a small screw driver under the hose and running around the edge will free things up for you. Just be ready to catch about 2 gallons of engine coolant as you will be draining the whole system. You may want to also check the seal on the top of the thermostat (black ball at the end of the hose in the center of the car). That has been known to develop a small leak and lead to coolant loss.
