If only does it when hot it has built pressure. Wait for car to cool of and pressure test cooling system.
You should find source of leak.

if the pressure test come up negative for any problem, best bet is you need to go get the cap from the ***********. You would be surprised what "specialty" machines are picky about.

God i Hate when people refer to us and the dealerships some of us work at as "***********s" lol
Quite a bit of known good technical help on this forum come from Jaguar Technicians Working at Jaguar Dealerships
And the last person i want to help personallyis someone refering to us as Dishonest/*******s etc
So please refrain from such banter
We are here to help on our own time
That should speak volumes to you as the kind of people we are
Dont mean to put it so blatant but sometimes its a good idea to think before you speak

I am very glad people here have a sense of humorother than that ofyours. Strealerships is often refered to as the price of the oem parts through them, especially in such a situation that calls for a part that is dealer exclusive and comes with a heavy pricetag (i.e. The plastic TC "scoop"). And touchette to your "blatant" comment, for you are speaking out of context. Please do not put words in my mouth. If you have something to say thats any other than the context of discussion, feel free to PM me as everyone will appreciate it and save the space wasted in my response to your personal callout.

Edit: I am not e-arguing with people. If everyone wants to get all hurt over words, then so be it. I am more mature than this and i hope the opposing party can atleast try to do the same.

Just a joke but this is what i tell people...haha

Hello, how do you pressure test coolant system? I have S-Type 2003 V-6 and i have to put coolant in weekly, notice large amounts after driving for a while. When I check under the hood I notice some brown stains on some of the belts. I also can smell the burning of the coolant when I drive.

Have you checked the plastic reservoir tank?
Be very careful continuing to drive with a coolant leak.

Thumbs up Expert Advice

I for one am extremely appreciative of the technicians that provide their expertize and ideas that we would otherwise have to pay a repair shop or dealership by the hour while they try to figure out what the problem is. I am lucky in that I have the ability to fix just about anything, if I know the correct proceedure, but finding the fault is the most difficult part alot of times. This is where the advice we get for free is worth a great deal and we are fortunate to get it. Thankyou to those who post and answer our questions.

The plastic reservoir tank is not leaking. It appears one of the hoses is leaking. I seen a bubble like mass coming off the hose coming off the tank. This car has 132,000 miles on it and I think it is time to sell it. I love my car but all the problems are starting to get a little costly, the wife is starting to get a little upset.

A hose can be purchased for under $20, usually. An easy fix.

For the amount of miles you have on the car, that's about normal for it to happen on any car that used.

The coolant tank is a common leak...mine had a leak from a bad original design on the bottom, and I replaced it with a new one (Jag OEM) that they had redesigned since then.

Took me about 15 minutes...it's very simple.

Remember: even though you want to ditch the car, fixing a few small things is usually cheaper than a new car payment!

Donald,
I found a new replacement hydraulic hose for my XJ6 from RockAuto.com. They have a replacement coolant recovery tank hose under $14 for your S-Type.

Had pressure test done and they are saying I need a new water pump. They quoted about $500 and 5 hours to do the work. Does that sound about right?

It will if the pump is leaking.

What did they say after the pressure test? Ask them if they are certain that the pump change will cure your problem.

Where is the water pump located? Does it really take 4 to 5 hours to fix it?
