Coolant not mixing
Ok I drained all the coolant and then poured a gallon in over flow tank. Ran her 10 minutes and nothing. The gauge is going up to the middle but the overflow take is still full?
The books says let her cool down for five minutes and top off and do again but I have no home to top off?
Any help much appreciate Do!

Sice you didn't list what year/model car you are working on, nor how you drained it so I'll have to make a few assumptions. If you drained the system thru the lower radiator drain then it is probably empty.
The x-type coolant system is aa low volume high velocity system. Start with a cold engine and start it up and bring the engine rpm up to around 1550-1800 rpm. Watch the coolant tank and add as needed. Make sure the temperature system is set to HI temp to get flow thru the heater.
Although the system is generally self bleeding, there is also a procedure in the tech manual for eliminating air. Follow the link below.

Do not rely on the temp gauge by the time it shows the engine heat above normal you have already overheated the engine most times. It is just a fancy idiot light.

With the engine COLD and the Reservoir cap off, see if you see any movement in the reservoir. You should be able to see some kind of flow. The bypass hose from the radiator that runs along the driver fender should drip coolant back into the reservoir causing movement. If not, maybe water pump.
