CRAZCAT noobie
Hello all!
I am very excited to have found an active Jaguar Forum! I am formally an Audi lover and have driven them my whole life. I also race them in SCCA and have all sorts of connections so naturally they are all calling me all sorts of names. But I absolutly LOVE my new X-type!! When I went car searching I wanted an AWD car with leather and the same goodies my Audi came with. It had to be a manual as well. This I thought limited the Jag out of the equation and left some jap/ american junk and the normal BMW, VOLVO, MERCEDES, SUBARU and AUDI. None of which I wanted as they are expensive to make unique! Jaguar is unique in stock trim as there are so few compaired to hte others. I then found the 2.5 manual AWD Jag. I did a little research and then found that they made it in a 3.0! Now I was really interested! I searched high and low with no success and then I found one in VA. (I live in NH) so I boarded a plane and flew down this past weekend! I love it, Its loaded with NAV, Leather, AWD, 5 speed and its a 3.0. And of course it is Jaguar Racing Green. So all in all it's almost perfect I do however have a few questions for you veterans here!
1.)My Audi let's me put the windows up or down without a Key (In case it rains and I need to run over) My Jag does not do this at least I don't think it does? Anyone know for sure?
2.) My Navigation doesn't allow me to play DVD's. ARRGGG I thought that since it says DVD it meant that it could. Any way to make it play them? Also the disc I have is 2201 copyright. can I get a newer one? How many $$$
3.)I only have 1 key for the car. can you get additional ones and how much $$$
4.) Not to many performance upgrades that I have found so far... unlike an Audi that I could hook up my laptop to and make changes to almost anything on the fly!
5.) Jaguar Enthusiast clubs or Get togethers... what's out there? I am from New Hampshire
I'll save the other questions for other times! I have made this forum my homepage so I'll check here often! I can't wait to get to know all of you! Thanks for your help in advance!

RE: CRAZCAT noobie
there is also some good activity on roadfly
keyfob remote global closing can be activated by the dealer .. most charge for that .. ( jerks) car should close by holding key in the door tho.
Let me know if you get the DVD solution.. I want that too.
there are 2 2003 discs on ebay now... dont bid against me.. that is dumb.. hahha I dont know what new streets are on the 03 disc.... will check for your town once i get it if you like...
keys on ebay... hard to find uncut.. also hard to get cut.. i think you can get a wrongly cut key on ebay and order just the metal key from dealer..
I wonder what power upgrades are out there.. not a racing crowd here usually.. I have this jag as a winter car... cant wait for snow.
would be happy to discuss all i have learned about the x type ... let me know if you wanna get on the phone and discuss...

You can check jaguarxp.com for a few performance upgrades...
Hit up racerx82 for where to get a performance chip, I think his jag has it...
Check out http://www.jag-lovers.org/ for car clubs, probably lots of places if you search
Welcome to the Jag Family!!

Hey Stephen,
Congrats on your purchase and welcome....Seems we have lots incommon and hopefully we can stay in touch while you're a jag driver and a racer....so i'm sure you'll have access to some speed shop parts that we normally won't have?
Been tring to squeeze extra hp out my baby. I reached my max at 270. Exhaust, intake work, polished runners, fuel injecters, Arden ECU....and some map tweaking....nothing concrete...just experamental for now.
Anyway, let me see if i can answer your question in the order you ask:
1. Yes, Appreantly on your key FOB, press once to lock doors, once doors lock, press and hold lock button for 3 secs..windows/sunroof should close.
2. No, your nav is not designed to play DVD movies like you would think.....bad on Jag for that...one of the reasons I installed my own 6.4 inch Jensen radio with Nav (check out my posts)
New disks cost about 200+ But you can bust through that copy write protection stuff, not a problem and buring new disk is easy. I just don't know who has them as of now...anybody wanna share??
3. Look on e-bay for uncut Key, about 20-40 bucks, new from jag, about 100+
4. Jag performance market is very weak. All the upgrade i did so far as mentioned above was done by me...spent alot of money for that extra HP. Could have vought a mustang v-8 with the same cash and added tons of HP for little $$ but I wouldn't have a sexy car....lol There is one company, Arden of germany, they deal with Jags and have some basic performace stuff...one of them being the ECU upgrade...1500 bucks for 25-30 Hp. Very nice and you can feel the differance right off the bat...but very expensive. Forget about turbo's , supercharges and such...NOBODY out there for JAG. No computer tweak software to date for JAG either.
5. Haven't seen anything yet, maybe we can be the first? I was personally thinking of a cross country tour..maybe getting sponsors and such...drive from east to west and back......
Ask away...we'll be here for ya...you just might not like the answers... lol
Here's a cool pic to get the blood flowing for your race car design:

RE: CRAZCAT noobie
Similar story... I found my 04 X Manual on the east side of PA outside Philly. I live west of cleveland. found it on a sunday, called on monday, flew out on wednesday. spent 2 days in philly with an old friend, then drove to AC to gamble for a few hours. 4-of-a-kind-on-let-it-ride later i was ordering the new chrome shoes. i also have the british racing green, the best color there is! mine is a 2.5, but i dont care. this car for me isnt about speed, it's about making people turn heads and NOT owning a bmw or mb like every other person on the road. i get all the speed and thrills i need from my motorcycle. i had actually searched for about 2 months and was all set to buy an 05 nissan altima. manual, all sorts of options, nice car. then i found the jag the day before i was going to buy. now i chuckle to myself every time i see an altima, thinking "wow, i could have been in that"... then i look at my interior and smile from ear to ear.
the X is a very unique car. unless they own a jag everyone who looks at it just assumes it cost you $60-80,000 which is a nice bonus. has all the sexy lines of a jaguar, as well as other items (like the paint job - the one on the X is the same as any other jag made). a month after buying mine my uncle liked it so much he bought one. 2 months later i drove out of state with my dad to pick up the one he found online.
as far as the closing, follow the directions already given. if they don't close after holding down the lock button it has to be 'programmed' by a dealer. some charge, some do not. it took them less than 2 mins to do mine at my local dealer. when we pipcked up my dad's, i asked them to program it for him. the head of service just happen to be next to us checking something out and chimed in how it was not possible to program that on an X. we took a walk over to mine, i showed him and 4 mins later he came back saying he found the info on it and programed my dad's free of charge.
ebay for the keys, no idea on the nav as i don't have that. jaguarxp.com does have some slight mods for the X, but i had a very bad expierence with them. took 3 excuses and a month to ship me the lower mesh grille insert. some have had good experiences, some bad. unfortunately for them i had a bad, and i tend to tell people about it
i would be interested in a rally or meet of some kind next summer. may even be able to have 3 show up if i can talk the family into it.
i have found 3 forums that are active, but i like this one the best. the others are http://forums.roadfly.com/forums/jaguar/jaguar_x_type/ and http://www.jaguarforum.co.uk/
enjoy the new ride, and smile as people turn their heads as you roll by.

RE: CRAZCAT noobie
Thanks for the ideas and sites! I think we will definetly have to get a get together organized for next summer.
Where is everyone here form anyway??
I'm From NH andcan't wait to try out the AWD in the snow to see how the X really compaires to an AUDI. So far I think it is more comfy but definetly smaller inside. It also doesn't have a built in ski bag to the back seat but that's ok I will just fold down the seats As of 11AM this morning it marks 1 week old for me and I am loving it!!

RE: CRAZCAT noobie
I just want to respond to a couple of comments earlier in this forum entry:
(1) Congratulations on buying a Jaguar. I'm too late to suggest your plate (I was away in Europe), but would have picked PURRRR.
(2) Engine tuning and extra power. I've been wondering why Jaguar have not uprated their engines since the launch; this is a normal thing to do as the vehicles are recertified every year or two for whatever new emissions or legal regulations the various world governments implement.
For example in the same timeframe, in the 3 series, BMW have launched their new N52 6 cylinder, and have just announced the N54 turbo.
One factor is cost; the Ford 3.0 Cleveland engine (the donor for the Jag engine) is being phased out in favour of their new 3.5 V6, which I don't think will fit in the X type engine bay (although it does fit in the Fusion, so I may be wrong). Jaguar cannot afford to design their own engine from scratch and so are forced adapt their plans accordingly.
Another factor is Diesel; Jaguar have spent a lot of time and energy implementing the 2.0, 2.2 (Puma) and 2.7 V6 (Lion) engines in their cars. This has been a #1 Priority for their European market and so the X type 3.0 has been at the bottom of the list.
The other factor could be the 4x4 driveline itself - perhaps it is not capable of handling the extra power. I have no data, but the early reliability issues and the unresolved level driveline noise suggest a design that has limitations.
However see the link I have posted previously; this is a serious project to tune a 3.0 based in Colorado:
http://3litermotorproject.blogspot.c...al-fluids.html
(3) Getting together for a meet next year. Seems like a good idea, although I'm sure that other contributors will marvel at how unmodified my (very bog standard) BRG X type is. All I request is that an area where we can drive properly is chosen; Michigan is DULL.
Cheers, Graham

RE: CRAZCAT noobie
he was making great progress and I was very impressed with the exhaust design.....he made a comment that ford turus manifods might fit....
I sure would like to get rid of that current cat design..seems to restrict and flow and I'm not too happy with the cats being so close to the block....would love to make it like a "normal" exhaust setup meaning having the cats more down stream....
How did he booger up your system>?

RE: CRAZCAT noobie
He didn't mess it up - he just did what I would have done with no other constraints (he mentions the balance and trade offs in the introduction to his blog; only he was not aware of the financial benefit of sharing investment with another carline.
Basically that design is a compromise. The manifold is common with the Mondeo ST220 (except for the outlet flange rotation), but there is no room for the converter in a normal position because of the 4x4 driveline. So the catalyst is laid horizontally across the back of the engine to get enough converter volume to achieve the emissions levels. This type of "close coupled" catalyst is common in Europe and Japan where the emissions test is different (you could argue that the US test is biased to allow large gas guzzling engines to pass). You will see close coupled installations on more and more US designed vehicles as the 2008 and 2010 legislation kicks in.
I'm confident that the Taurus manifold will bolt to the engine, I just don't know whether it will clear the rest of the vehicle installation (I've not looked). If you try this ensure that the under sump installation is braced back to the block somehow for vibration durability.
