Default Cruise control and check engine light

Hi to all,

I own a 2003 Jaguar X-Type 3.0 with automatic gearbox 4WD with 146500 kms and I have a problem. The warning message "Cruise control not available" with a yellow warning light and the yellow check engine light are flashing. The message about the cruise control and the yellow warning light are disappearing without doing nothing but the car remains in engine safety mode.. I have brought the car to my regular workshop and they have check all the possible air leak issues. The car has been serviced two days ago with the changing of all 6 spark plugs, oil, air and oil filters, the switch on the brake pedal has been checked and cleaned and it looks right. I have asked to check as well the transmission fluid quality and quantity and they were both well. The error codes (I will put them tomorrow because a new more detailed diagnosis is schedule) were referring to a poor gas melangem (?) The guys are telling me that it could be necessary to change the two lambda probes.. I trust them but they are not Jaguar's specialists and the only Jaguar official dealer has treated me quite bad telling me that X-Type weren't real Jaguar and that there was always problems with them.... I am ready to change everything that could be necessary , all that has been done was necessary but I don't want to make any more repair if I am not sure that can solve the problem. I am welcome to all your suggestions and advices and give to everyone who can help me a big thank you in advance!

I had a "Cruise Control Not Available" warning and check engine light that went away and the car ran OK after I put the gas cap back on after someone forgot to close it. Could be that simple.

In my case I think it was an early warning that the fuel pump was going bad due to other things that have happened to the car since then. Just a theory at this point but I would check or have your mechanics check the fuel pressure to see if your fuel pump and pressure regulator are working OK,

Marc, based on your other posts, having the P0171 and P0174 codes indicates a vacuum leak. If you have changed the BIG 3 (explained in the other post), then your next most likely culprit is the lower intake gaskets. The gaskets are cheap, but getting to them takes a little bit of time. Of note, when doing this, change the upper gasket set at the same time. If you have problems locating the gaskets (other than at the dealership), you can go to your local auto parts store and ask them for the upper and lower intake gasket sets for the same year Lincoln LS 3.0L engine. They are the same gaskets as you would get for your Jag.

If you want something more definitive, get a good cigar and light it up. Then you gently blow the smoke into the engine bay. You want the smoke to slowly roll through the engine bay (will need to have the motor fairly cold and the interior heat turned off). Watch the smoke. When it makes a sudden change in direction, the smoke is running towards the leak. If you don't smoke, find a friend that does. he will thank you.

Hi Dh53,
Thank's for your answer, yes I have check gas cap and it is always well closed, as for the fuel pump because I have experienced that problem on my 1979 Cadillac Seville they have been checked and they are o.k. Apparently the problem came from my two lambda probes...

Best Regards
