The problem is the connectors are gone -non-existent! Maybe the sealant/ rtv silicone, or whatever will work, but isn't there a way to replace the actual connectors. The replacements on ebay don't include the connectors.

fox: Try sending a PM to Dr dome, a member of this forum who parts out X-Types. I've purchases parts from him at very reasonable prices. If he has the part you need, he'll help you.

Yes, I saw that part on ebay as well. They call it a brake booster adapter. I was thinking that's what I needed. Why throw away the brass part?

The existing one will be too hard to remove from the manifold and is probably undamaged.

The existing one is gone. The end of the booster pipe is just sunken into a glob of rtv sealant in the hole in the manifold where the connector used to be.

fox: You and Craig are having what we jokingly call a "violent agreement"!

If you need the new brass insert to fill the hole in your intake before you insert the new black plastic retainer, then by all means use the new brass insert.

If you don't need the new brass insert because the old one is still in the intake (usually the case), then don't use it and simply insert the new black plastic retainer into the hole in your intake.

Please post some pictures to help the next person fix this problem. It's unfortunately common to find broken and missing retaining clips because a former owner / mechanic tried to force the vacuum line out of the intake manifold. So instead of fixing a vacuum leak, they create one!

I guess my problem is I really don't know how that brass piece fits. Perhaps it is pressed into the manifold, making the top of it flush with the surface of the manifold. I could understand how that would make it hard to get out. Then, if the dummy previous mechanic just broke the retainer ring, that's all that needs to be replaced. All I see is, now the end of the vacuum line goes in the hole loosely, creating the necessity of the rtv sealant. Anyway, I've ordered the part. When it gets here and I can look more closely at everything, I'm sure it will all make sense. Thanks to Craig at least I think I'm on the right track........

Could the brass piece have fallen into the manifold?

Sorry it took so long to get back to you. The weather got warm and everything was fine, so I couldn't check anything. I sorted out the connector thing for the hoses into the manifold. You were right -the brass thing was still in there. Anyway, when it finally got cold again, the problems came back: "cruise not available", cel, etc. -only at cold start up -30 degrees or less. I am convinced there are no more vacuum leaks. Each one I fixed made it better, but not cured. Someone on one of these threads mentioned that theirs always ran bad when cold until they replaced the coolant temp sensor, which fixed it. I thought, what the heck I've tried everything else -and ordered a temp sensor. It took less than 5 minutes to install. This morning it was 19 degrees. I fired it up and it was smooth as can be. That seems to have cured it.

Thanks for the update, I will mentally file that info for future use as I get crazy temp reading sometimes.

Turned out to be a weak battery.
Our cats are very sensitive to low voltage I would recommend getting the battery load tested at the local parts store and replace if its "weak"

also fixed the problem of my "s" button not working

The big clue here is the Cold weather

Well done Paul, I don't think I was believed when I said exactly that!!!!
After changing vac hoses and CPS that was the problem all along!"
