Question To de-badge or not to de-badge???

I am seriously considering taking off the X-Type and 2.5 off the back of my trunk. I am just looking for opinions. I am trying to modify this car while at the same time keeping its factory look. I have modded cars in the past to the point you really couldn't be too sure what it was. I used the car for racing. I've still got the bug to modify my car but this time I don't want to turn it into my own creation. I would like to keep it as Jaguar as possible.

So what does everyone think, de-badge or no de-badge?

Mine is de-badged but I kind of like the badges now. You could always take it off and add the Arden badge on one side but some might not like that idea unless you have an Arden part or too. I though, like the Arden badge.

it is mildly cool in europe to take the bigger engine version of a car and remove the badge, to hide, and be austere. To take the badge off the smaller engine car in the US is pure ****** behaviour.

Just my personal opinion. Not calling you a ******....

Thanks sport30. I surely don't have anything to hide with my 2.5. haha. Its not the "secret weapon" that some might say they have under the hood.

I like the idea of the Arden badge but i will have to wait until I get the aero kit installed. (This is a spring/summer project of mine)

If I'm not mistaking the badges are only held on by double sided tape right? So if I take them off I could always re-attach them later.

I de-badged, that's my preference, actually when I bought it the 3.0 badge was already missing, so it looked lop-sided.

Re the comments about "in Europe" yes it's true, but goes both ways, big or small engine, nobody want's to advertise...

To each his own. If it makes you happy, do it! Why not turn it into your own creation? That's part of the fun.

Thanks rhriczko.

BTW you can't really re-use the badges once you take them off, the adhesive backing will stay on the paintwork, and then you need to carefully remove it, I just picked it away, some other people use methylated spirits. Don't use any aggressive solvents, you'll damage the clear-coat.

A couple of words about my de-badging experience.

- There is a slight stain in the clear-coat where the AWD badge was, I haven't had a chance to try polishing it yet.

- There is a small dent where the E was, like whoever put the badge on tapped it with a rubber mallet or something.

You can only see them if you are looking for them. I'll get around to fixing it soon.

Jeremy, the 2009 boot plinth can go either way, depending on the car. Personally I was suffering from "too much chrome" so it wouldn't be my choice. But i guess without the chrome bumper inserts, the 2009 plinth would look nice.

rhriczko I couldn't see a pic of the back of your car, but i'm guessing your plinth is blacked-out like the grille? If not de-badged and black everything would be very slick...

Ill have to upload a pic of the back. I think I will de-badge today and see how I like it. If it doesnt look right Ill put the badges back on.

Cambo - Yep, everything is black. I actually painted the "Jaguar" lettering on the plinth. Its a very subtle dark gray metallic so it doesnt stand out. Just enough to get your attention if youre looking at it. Ill take pics and upload tonight.

Cambo351,
I think it looks great. Very clean. You made up my mind. I'll take mine off. I am going to need new paint after a bit(when I can afford it) anyway. I also have the problem of rust coming out from under the bottom of the Jaguar Badge. Is anyone else having this problem? I am actually thinking of removing the whole badge. Any thoughts? rhriczko, looking forward to see pics.
