Decided on my exhaust...
Well, I've decided on my exhaust setup.
I know we argued in another thread about this, but my X has 3 mufflers. A front one and the two rears..
I've decided I'll replace the front one (located in the middle of the car) with a flowmaster 40 with dual-outs, which is a VERY deep and rumbling tone to it... It should be great for a high compression V6.
From there I'll just run pipes to the back and out some big oval tips.
Simple.
I picked the flowmaster 40 because its known to not have the best flow... And since I'm eliminating the 3 stock mufflers, my car needs SOME back pressure, or there could be problems. The flowmaster is deep toned, cheap, and should still give some backpressure. Though not much.

WHAT? The Flowmaster 40 isn't going to give you any backpressure. It's like having straight pipes. The 50 series should give you a little more backpressure, but if you want backpressure, you should consider a resonator. Flowmasters have very little backpressure!

The center muffler you type about is called the resonator. You're right about it being a muffler and it does dilute or quiet the sound a bit before it gets to the 2 rear mufflers.
The problem you may encounter in cutting this piece out and replacing it with the free flowing glass pack is that you'll be sitting right on top of the sound. I imagine this will get loud? And the loudness will be rumbling right under you and your passanger seats....??
Anyway, keep us posted and when you get done, maybe some sound clips???

Ill definately be the guinea pig and give you guys feedback and soundclips.
Im figuring that it won't be loud to sit on top of the muffler because the actual output tips are still at the back of the car. Its possible it may resonate through the car some...
I used to drive an eclipse with a loud muffler on the back. I put a muffler in place of the front muffler/resonator and it didnt change anything, still only heard and felt the rear muffler.
Well, I'll decide and order everything this weekend, the experiment will be on soon.

Honestly, last year i was gonna cut mine out as well and replace it with a stainless piece, maybe 3" dia one. Stainless pipes tend to resinate at a different freq than metal or alum. Maybe after hearing your's I'll give mine a try and see how it sounds through my Borla's...
