Default diesel mpg

I've got a 2.2D.

Autotrader reckons it did 60mpg when new.

I got 53 mpg going from Manchester to Edinburgh doing 65mph. I did put my foot down a bit on the A roads though.

I've never got 60mpg out of it though. Would a service help?

Thanks.

Hey there Jonesy, the 2.2 X type is a great car, a really good mix of performance and fuel economy too

53mpg from Manchester to Edinburgh is damn good I reckon, bearing in mind the official tests are usually done to get the "max" possible figure.
In all honesty, you're probably in really good shape.

A service won't hurt if its about due and new air / oil filters oil change etc may help a little, but I reckon you're going to have to work hard to get close to that figure by sticking to 60 mph, use hypermiling techniques, switch the A/C off etc etc

Wow, wish I could get that kind of mileage.

But wait, your gallons are bigger than ours aren't they, then that's cheating... :-p

Yeh but could've got there in half the time if i floored it. Still, 3rd gear was fun on the A702. Flew past everything.

Lol....Jonesy, you just answered why you got 53mpg yourself

I know cos I did an exercise in my A6 driving around 700 miles in one day on a full tank and achieved 52.1mpg iirc at one point.
That was travelling at around a constant 70mph, sometimes for long spells at 50mph in roadworks with cameras, using hypermiling techniques the lot.

When I filled up my DIS told me I could get 915 miles on one tank if I drove in a similar fashion.
I was bored and booted it up the M6 / M74 hitting 100, sometimes 130 for short bursts and the mpg soon came tumbling down to around 41mpg iirc
