If oil is leaking from your diff, then old or new a seal is worn... only slightly perhaps. I'm assuming that this is a drive shaft seal... which should be relatively easy to replace. I've never heard of 'old diff oil' being the cause of leaks. I'd consider a new mechanic or at least a second opinion. One thing I would be worried about is ... what has the mechanic filled the diff with? There are oils and there are oils. I don't know that the wrong diff oil will cause damage, but there could be issue. There was a recent post which listed all of the recommended oils for engines, transmissions diffs etc.

I simply dont trust mechanics. I just changed my starter and I do my own oil changes. Also fixed my antifreeze hose that got loose and was causing my car to overheat. But, to this day I do my own repairs regardless.

Went to get my oil changed once, and they never changed it they just filled it up and thats it. Never got rid of the old oil.

I agree tho, get a second opinion.

They are basically easy to change..(Differential Pinion shaft Seal)..you need to drop the rear U-joints and then need a impact wrench and a big deep socket to get the big center nut loose (that's the hard part) and then the shaft pulls out, there maybe a calibrated (torqued)crush nutto remove, then you snag the seal out..Better let a drivetrain shop around you do it..they have all the right tools.

yes, it is Differential Pinion shaft Seal leaking....
If it is not that hard to do it, I want to try to fix it.
Cuz I went to 'mr. transmission' they told me that it will cost $250...canadian..
well...i don't want to spend that much money, I already spended $2000 on tires and brake.
do you have instruction with pictures??
or recommanded mechanic around toronto???

The JTIS instructions for replacing the pinion seal are pretty involved. It requires removal of the drive shaft, unbolt and lower rear diff, measure preload torque, etc. Pulling the input flange to access the seal also requires several special tools and all new fasteners. I wouldn't call this "easy".

You really should refer to JTIS for the details before you dive into this job. JTIS is available via download or EBAY.
