Disabling x-type auto lock feature FAQ
How does one get rid of the annoying auto door lock feature? Somebody referred to the x-type method (without explaining it) on the s-type thread but I do not seem to be able to find it.
Oh, by the way I just bought my first Jag - an X-type and I'm enjoying myself royally as it is still cold and icy in the mornings! There's nothing like a well-balanced 4wd for snow and ice!

I find the locks annoying also. I dont mind them locking too much, but I would at least like them to unlock when I turn the ignition off.
They are quite sensitive on my car, even small parking manoeuvres activate them to lock. If I move the car out of a tight spot to make it easy for a passenger to get in, the doors always get locked in the process.

I like the feature, but I wish that it wasn't so noisy. My VW hatchback does the same thing silently, so why can't the more expensive and luxurious Jaguar do the same?
I wouldn't mind a soft noise, but that loud thunk is unacceptable so, although I prefer it to lock, I'd disable it if I could.

I see what you mean. I find the lack of a dedicated button to control the locking mechanisms pretty dumb. Obviously I've figured it out, but a new passenger always struggles with how to get out of the car.
I'm thinking the loud noise is intentional to let the driver know that the locks have been activated.

Message: I've never tried this procedure, but I think I found these instructions on this board.
---------
Reversal of the below should work
Turn on the ignition so all the dash lights come on but don't start the engine.
Lock the door using the button on the door handle and then unlock the door (but don't open it) 3 times.
Turn off the ignition.
Lock the door using the button on the door handle and then unlock the door (but don't open it) 3 times.
Turn on the ignition but dont start the engine - you should be able to hear a beep.
Lock the door again as before then unlock it (only once this time) - a final beep should be heard.
If all goes according to plan your doors should now auto lock when you go over a certain speed (about 5-10mph). This will also auto lock the doors if you reverse away. This mod will be operational until you repeat the above steps to switch it off. It will only work once for each time the car is started though. In other words, if you unlock the doors to let someone out without turning the engine off, they will not automatically lock when you move away again.

Jimmy,
The advise was to SubArticCat. The "RANT" was to HELP INFORM someone on how to find information they are looking for. NO OFFENSE was intended just polite information on HOW TO get information. It may be obvious to you but not so for many including myself. If I sound like I rant, sorry you're insulted. Don't read any of my posts. I like to try to be through and complete with the how's, why's and what nots. Sometimes words came be understood from many different directions, however if one gives more words around them the meaning can become clear.

Work around does work
I recently used the manual lock/unlock procedure listed above on a 2003 x type and it did work as stated. The system actually chimes rather than beeps when it has worked, but doing this does seem to turn the auto locking on/off for some reason. Only thing seems to be, to do the consecutive lock/unlock stuff reasonably quickly so it knows it is a message and not just unlocking the door.
