Default Does your passenger mirror dip down in reverse?

I just read in a post on this site that if you keep your mirror adjustment controls in the central position that there is a way to make your passenger mirror dip down in reverse and come back up in drive. The instructions on how do do this were not clear however. Anyone know how this works?

There is no mention of any such feature in the owners handbook.

The closest thing I could find is that the electrochromatic mirror will clear if dimmed when reverse is selected.

On automatics if i have the mirror switch in the central position, select reverse and then tap the window button the passenger mirror tilts down! even cooler though is when i shift into D when it goes back to normal.

When I do that, the passenger side window just goes down a slight bit (as I would expect from tapping the window button).

This did not work for me. With the side mirror switch in middle position, Your saying the tap the passenger window button down and then the passenger side mirror moves down? Wouldn't that just reflect the ground?

Yes, it is a standard feature on most new luxury cars. When in reverse, the mirrors tilt down to show you the ground and your back wheel so you dont curb it or hit anything invisible otherwise. My X doesnt have that feature though.

You will probably need WDS or IDS to enable the feature. There is a list of features that can be 'enabled/disabled' in 'setup and configuration'__'dealer options'.

Different cars have different features and the newer the car the more features can be programmed.

I don;t have this on my X-type, maybe because it's a manual

I have this on my BMW X3 and I hate it, I always switch it off.

Don't have this feature on my '07 x-type but my '98 XK8 has it. You can really hug the curb if needed without scratching the rims. Jack

I have always kept my mirror switch in the center simply because I am OCD but my passenger side mirror has never moved as a result of putting it in reverse.

I want my money back Jaguar.

If your seats are programable with the 1,2,3 memory options on them, then it also remembers your wing mirror settings.

Some people set it up as follows.

1. Main driver going forwards.
2. Secondary driver forwards.
3. Main driver going backwards.

So when you're reversing press 3 on the side of your seat and both wing mirrors should tilt downwards but the seat doesn't move.

When you're done press 1 and they should return to normal.

I don't have programable seats : (

This doesn't work for me because the memory seat buttons are disabled while the car is out of Park.

In order for this to work I would have to shift from Drive back to Park, press memory seat button 3, shift from Park to Reverse, back the car into my parking space, shift back to Park, and then press memory seat button 1 again.

This is my first Jag and was bought almost on impulse. Standard shift, no moving mirrors, no auto-up windows from fob, no nav system, no memory seats, and no traction control.

My next Jag will be different if I ever get rid of this one.

Sounds almost as easy as turning the traction control in a BMW M6 off.
